Position Title: Lead Youth Crisis Mentor
Department: Teen Link / Crisis Connections
Payrate: $26.01hr.
Work location: Onsite, Seattle WA
Reports To: Program Supervisor
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Schedule: Flexible schedules available. Current openings are Wednesday–Saturday, 5:00 p.m.–10:00 p.m., with a mandatory staff meeting on Wednesdays from 3:00 p.m.–5:00 p.m.
PROGRAM SUMMARY
Crisis Connections provides accessible, compassionate, telephone-based support services that are free to individuals in King County and throughout Washington State. Our mission is to foster resilience and well-being for all by connecting people to the right resources at the right time.
We are seeking a Lead Youth Crisis Mentor to join our team and support the next generation of youth volunteers as they develop leadership and crisis intervention skills.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Lead Youth Crisis Mentor provides direct support, coaching, and guidance to Teen Link Volunteers as they respond to youth contacts through phone, chat, and text services. This position plays a vital role in developing volunteer skills, ensuring adherence to established protocols, and fostering growth, resilience, and leadership among youth participants.
JOB DUTIES ANDRESPONSISBILITIES
- Provide mentorship, guidance, and skill development for Teen Link Volunteers.
- Support the orientation and training process for new volunteers, ensuring readiness for phone, chat, and text contacts.
- Monitor and support volunteers during contacts, including debriefing calls and reviewing documentation for accuracy and adherence to program protocols.
- Contribute to volunteer leadership development and create opportunities for youth growth.
- Collaborate with program supervisors and training staff to ensure volunteers receive consistent, supportive feedback.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Demonstrated experience, familiarity, and comfort working with youth in mentorship, leadership, or educational settings.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
- Demonstrated reliability, dependability, and punctuality.
- Daily access to reliable transportation.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends.
Preferred:
- Associate of Arts (AA) in Social Sciences, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field; consideration will be given to candidates nearing completion of this degree.
- Leadership experience in volunteer or youth-centered programs.
- Bilingual or multilingual skills.
Requirements
Computer Skills Assessment: Crisis Connections requires a basic Computer Skills assessment to measure computer literacy and skills. The assessment is approximately 15 minutes in length and timed. HR will provide a link to complete the test after screening qualified candidates.
This assessment will be completed on the candidate's personal computer. Upon request, candidates may take the assessment at one of our 2 office locations as accommodation. Additional accommodations for the assessment are provided upon request.
Technology Requirements:
Smart phone with ability to download and use Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) application.
For Remote / Hybrid positions
· High speed internet (wired ethernet connection preferred). No Cellular or Hotspots.
· A quiet and confidential designated working area.
Working Conditions: Individuals in this position should be able to sit or stand for lengthy periods of time. Individuals will need to be able to wear a headset or earphones as they take calls and attend meetings. Individuals will need to manage several IT/software platforms at once and be able to function in an environment with moderate noise and distraction.
· This position will expose you to conversations about suicide, mental health issues and staff responding to crisis situations.
