About the Department
This position will be responsible for administration of all the City’s major enterprise applications including the City’s ERP and Public Safety applications, ensuring secure and efficient operation of Microsoft Azure and SQL Server environments, and providing advanced application support to all City departments. The Applications Administrator will also lead and coordinate application upgrades, integrations, and new software implementations under the direction of the IS Director or IS Manager. This role serves as a senior technical resource for application-related projects, providing strategic input, technical expertise, and mentorship to IS support staff.
Position Duties
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.
- Administer, maintain, and optimize enterprise applications, including ERP, Public Safety systems, and other core business applications.
- Manage application environments in Microsoft Azure and Microsoft SQL Server, including performance tuning, security, and troubleshooting.
- Oversee application integrations and data exchanges between systems to ensure reliability, accuracy, and security.
- Lead planning, testing, and implementation of application upgrades, patches, and new deployments.
- Collaborate with department leaders to assess software needs, identify process improvements, and ensure applications meet operational requirements.
- Act as primary liaison with software vendors, ensuring timely resolution of escalated support issues.
- Maintain detailed documentation of application configurations, procedures, and system changes.
- Provide advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis for application-related issues.
- Operate a motor vehicle to travel between City locations for meetings, trainings, and support as required.
- Train and mentor IT staff in application management best practices.
- Monitor system performance, usage, and capacity to recommend enhancements or changes.
- Ensure compliance with cybersecurity best practices, data retention policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Support and participate in IT strategic planning for application lifecycle management.
- Support other functions of the Information Services Department.
- The Applications Administrator must be able to operate a motor vehicle to travel between City facilities and work sites in order to provide technical support and participate in projects as required.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent work experience). Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience in application administration, systems management, or enterprise software support.
- Experience with application deployment projects or major feature/code releases.
- Demonstrated experience supporting ERP and/or Public Safety systems.
- A valid State of Georgia Driver’s License and the ability to maintain a satisfactory motor vehicle record.
- Expert-level knowledge of Microsoft Azure services and administration.
- Proficiency with Microsoft SQL Server, including database administration, query optimization, and backup/recovery processes.
- Strong understanding of enterprise application architecture, integration, and security.
- Experience with Microsoft 365, Windows Server environments, and desktop application support.
- Knowledge of application lifecycle management and project management methodologies.
