Examinations: Written Exam (Weight 100%): Will be conducted for the purpose of assessing the applicant's knowledge of tax roll preparation procedures; assessment mapping criteria; building construction methods and types, real estate industry operation; and local assessment and administrative policies.
Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the exam process.

Minimum Qualifications/Employment Standards:
Level I: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree.
Appointees must pass a state examination to be certified as an "Appraiser for Property Tax Purposes" within one (1) year of appointment or employment will be terminated.
Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Driver's License.
Level II:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree AND one (1) year of equivalent experience as an "Appraiser for Property Tax Purposes" with another California Assessor's Office or with the California State Board of Equalization as prescribed by California law.
OR
Completion of one (1) year of experience equivalent to an Appraiser I or an Auditor-Appraiser I in the Kern County Classification System.
Additional Requirements Level II:
A valid certificate as an "Appraiser for Property Tax Purposes" issued by the State Board of Equalization
Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicles Driver's License.
OR
Two (2) years of experience as a California State Certified General Real Estate Appraiser. Appointees must pass a State examination to be certified as an "Appraiser for Property Tax Purposes" within one year of appointment or employment will be terminated.
Level III:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree AND
Two (2) years of equivalent experience as an Appraiser II with another California Assessor's Office or with the California State Board of Equalization as prescribed by California law
OR
Completion of two (2) years of experience equivalent to an Appraiser II in the Kern County Classification System.
Additional Requirements Level III:
Satisfactory completion of 1 course in Advanced Real Estate Appraisal with the State Board of Equalization. OR proof of passing a qualifying equivalent course for credit.
Possession of a valid certificate as an "Appraiser for Property Tax Purposes."
Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Driver's License.

A background check may be conducted for this classification.
Following an offer of employment, you may be required to submit to post offer medical and drug screening tests at County expense.
This examination will establish an eligible list from which immediate appointment(s) will be made. Other permanent and temporary appointments will be made as needed. Successful candidates will remain on the eligible list for a period of twelve-months, unless specified otherwise by the Civil Service Commission.
