Description: CRG is seeking a full-time Writer and Speechwriter to develop speeches, talking points, messaging, briefing slides, and other communications products in support of a new DOD client at Ft. Detrick, MD. This individual will be responsible for researching, writing, and coordinating with subject matter experts to capture the voice of the senior leadership of the organization, and accompanying leadership to events.
Duties and Tasks:
- Work with the writer/editor/engagements personnel to develop story ideas and approaches.
- Interview subject matter experts on complex issues, and write plain-language newsletter articles that are ready for publishing.
- Write and edit in Associated Press (AP) style.
- Write and edit for web style with an understanding of operational security requirements.
Rapidly research topics and write talking points or speeches for executive leadership to include but not limited to:- Industry and academic events. (City of Frederick events, Gains in the Education of Mathematics and Science (GEMS) program graduations, Strengthening the Mid- Atlantic Region for Tomorrow Procurement (SMART PROC) conference).
- Military events. (Association of the United State Army (AUSA), Military Health System Research Symposium (MHSRS), Military Medicine Partnership Days (MMPD)).
- Create slide-sets in PowerPoint.
- Attend speaking engagements to hear presentation styles.
- Attend calendar scrubs and syncs to ensure coverage and awareness of command events.
Required Qualifications:
- Mastery of the principles, methods, practices, and techniques of communication that enable the public affairs specialist to function as a technical authority within the assigned area with responsibility for the development of senior leader Messaging.
- BA/BS degree in Communications, Public Affairs, Marketing, or related field.
- 7+ years of experience in government public affairs and communication.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to capture the voice of senior leaders.
- Effective organizational and communication skills as well as excellent writing and editing skills.
- Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications, especially PowerPoint.
- Ability to handle multiple projects concurrently.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and virtual environment both independently and as a team.
- Knowledge of AP Style.
Preferred but not required:
- Master’s degree in communication or marketing.
- Experience supporting the Military Health System or the U.S. Army
- Experience in event planning, protocol, or senior-level engagement management.
- DINFOS trained.
