Responsibilities
- Conduct various tests of power plant equipment. These include, but are not limited to: boiler water sampling (pH, salt, and phosphate), lube oil analysis, gas purity assessments, atmospheric safety testing, dew point analysis, and participation in environmental sampling programs.
- Responsible for compiling routine data and special reports to evaluate trends and efficiency.
- Chemists maintain chemical instrumentation by cleaning and calibrating equipment, replacing probes and components, and conducting alarm checks.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED and 4 years Equivalent Technical Experience (Power, Water Treatment, marine, etc.). or
- Associate's Degree In Chemical/Environmental Engineering or a Related Field.
- Knowledge of practical application to power plant equipment to apply to water treatment processing/chemical and gas sampling for analysis.
- Experience in PC based software (i.e. Microsoft Office programs).
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Driver's License Required
- Ability to respond to system emergencies
- Perform heavy manual labor, i.e. push, pull, and lift up to 50lbs
- Ability to carry tools and materials when climbing ladders and scaffolds, and entering confined spaces
- Work in, under, and on top of all types of company vehicles and/or equipment
- Ability to work in adverse conditions that include, noise, confined spaces, and high elevations
- Ability to climb ladders and stairs
- Ability to work on elevated platforms, scaffolds, catwalks, roofs, and/or other equipment
- Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
- Ability to work with, and in, the vicinity of high voltage and/or other high-energy systems
- Ability to be approved to wear and use either a full or half-face respirator, without facial hair or other conditions that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations
- Stand, walk, and climb ladders and stairs for the duration of the workday
- Stand, walk, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach for the duration of the workday
- Use hand-eye coordination to adjust controls on equipment
- Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
- Work with equipment with a manufacturer weight rating of 350lbs
- Use equipment with a maximum weight rating of 375lbs when wearing and/or carrying 25lbs of clothing and equipment
- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
