About the Department
Incumbents must be able to report to work in any one of the division's district offices throughout the county.
In accordance with Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI)/Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) security policies, the FBI/FDLE Criminal Justice Information Services(CJIS) Access Security Policy requires that all criminal justice agencies (including Broward Sheriff's Office, State Attorney's Office, and Medical Examiner's Office) have documentation of enhanced background screening on file for all personnel who may conduct any type of unescorted work or duties within any location that Criminal Justice Information (CJI) is housed(i.e., any type of computer or computer system/network with direct access to CJI).
General Description
Oversees the construction, renovation and repair work of a skilled trades crew.
Requires four (4) years in journey level experience in area of assignment including one (1) year of lead work/supervisory experience.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver’s License for duration of appointment.
Must be able to pass and maintain Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) certification depending on area of assignment.
Possession of a CDL may be required depending on area of assignment.
Preferences
- Vocational or Associate Degree in Building Systems, Engineering, Construction or closely related field
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering, Construction Management or closely related field
- Journey Level/Certificate of Competency issued by Broward County's Building Code Service Division
- Certificate for improving efficiency of commercial or Industrial Boilers
- At least one (1) year of experience using AIM (Assetworks) or other Computerized Maintenance Management System.
- At least one (1) year of experience using PeopleSoft procurement or finance modules.
- At least four (4) years of experience in maintaining Generators and /or electrical switchgear.
- At least (4) years of experience in maintaining plumbing systems, commercial HVAC systems or water-cooled chillers.
- At least four (4) years of experience in supervising multiple craft workshop. (Electricians, carpenters, painters, A/C Mechanics, etc...).
Position Duties
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
The Skilled Trades Supervisor responsibilities include supervising, assigning, and evaluating skilled staff in the safe repair and maintenance of buildings, machinery, equipment and landscapes using current industry standards. Identifies and addresses equipment and machinery issues. Diagnoses mechanical, electrical, or structural problems with facility equipment and machinery. Prioritizes repair needs and assigns appropriate trades personnel (e.g., electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians) to perform timely and effective repairs. Collaborates with vendors or specialists to resolve issues.
Uses computerized maintenance management software to document statuses of maintenance work orders. Determines which tools are required for certain maintenance repairs. Monitors inventory of maintenance supplies. Tracks the usage of tools, replacement parts, and materials. Maintains accurate records of stock levels, reorders and vendor information. Ensures adequate supply of tools and materials for routine and emergency repairs. Attends meetings with superintendents and contractors/vendors to discuss building or machinery maintenance, installation or repairs. Inspects buildings and grounds to determine if any maintenance, repairs or safety hazards need to be addressed. Implements necessary repairs, or corrections, to resolve any safety hazards. Inspects maintenance jobs that are in progress and those that have been completed. Objectively perform performance evaluation of personnel. Handles personnel time cards, attendance, leave requests, and any other tasks relating to supervising employees. Must be available to work nights and on weekends.

Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
Involves routine and frequent exposure to dust, noise, electrical shocks; heights.
