Position Duties
The Town of Marana is seeking an accomplished and innovative parks and recreation professional to serve as our next Parks and Recreation Deputy Director. This full-time leadership role works closely with the Parks and Recreation Director to plan, organize, supervise, and manage departmental operations, including key functions related to parks maintenance, recreation programming, aquatics, community events.

Expected Hiring Range: $105,713 - $134,784 annually
placement within the expected hiring range is dependent on direct experience, internal equity and/or budget
Salary Range: $105,713 - $163,854 annually
Minimum Qualifications
- In the absence of the Parks and Recreation Director this position assumes their responsibilities as needed.
- Assists the Director in overseeing the department’s operations, including the park maintenance, recreation programming, facility operations, aquatics, and special events.
- Establishes operational organization goals and objectives of the department.
- Assists in developing and enhancing efficiency, effectiveness, and outcome-oriented performance metrics that highlight program successes and identify policy/process bottlenecks and vulnerabilities.
- Develops and maintains positive public relations with emphasis on quality customer service.
- Provides leadership and development to assigned staff; participates in the recruitment process, ensures adequate staffing levels, evaluates work performance, ensures policy and procedure compliance, and oversees employee relations.
- Ensures compliance with relevant regulations and standards
- Participates in the development of the annual department budget.
- Presents items before the Town Council and other boards or commissions as necessary; Represents the Town on various boards, commissions and committees.
- Supports Town Management Team by consulting with Parks and Recreation Director, Town Manager, Deputy Manager, department heads, and elected officials.
- Maintains comprehensive knowledge of Parks and Recreation trends, standards, codes, and regulations.
- Manages special projects as needed, including advanced research.
Other Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in parks and recreation administration, business, public administration, management, natural resources or related field from an accredited university or college.
- Five or more years of progressive leadership experience in planning and managing parks and recreation services, programs, and facilities or in a directly related field.
- Over five years of supervisory experience
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid Arizona Driver License
- Ability to pass both the Town of Marana background check and a motor vehicle records check
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- A graduate degree in parks and recreation administration, business, public administration, management, natural resources or related field from an accredited university or college
- Three or more years of supervisory leadership experience in a local government setting.
- National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA) Certification(s) such as Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) and/or Certified Park and Recreation Executive (CPRE)
