As a member-supported business unit of the Indy Chamber, the Indy Partnership team leads regional economic development efforts across the 10-county Indianapolis region. The Director of Business Recruitment role sits at the intersection of strategy, promotion, recruitment, and leadership in service to the Indy Partnership region. Specifically, this position will play a significant role in the implementation of the Indy Partnership’s business attraction efforts. The position will embrace a “road warrior” mindset in pursuit of targeted industries and businesses who should consider the Indy region for their next business location. Frequent domestic (and some international) travel to target industry trade shows, association conferences, and business visits will be required. When in the office, time will be spent researching potential prospects and conducting regular follow-up with previously engaged prospects.
- Possess, develop, and effectively communicate an understanding of the advantages of doing business in the 10 counties of the Indy Partnership region, with a focus on current and future targeted industries. (Current targets generally include Life Sciences, Information Technology, Advanced Manufacturing, Logistics, Sports Industry, and Agribusiness.)
- Have a working knowledge of local and state incentives, the real estate market (i.e., available sites & buildings), tax structure, workforce demographics, financing programs and other data used in business recruitment efforts.
- Working closely with the Chief Economic Development Officer (CEDO), develop and implement a sales strategy for national and international business recruitment, including but not limited to relationship development, direct mail, personal calls/visits, presentations, trade shows and events.
- Research and identify good venues and events that will provide a “target rich environment” for business recruitment outreach, including trade shows, conferences, etc., and propose budget and calendar for prioritized efforts.
- In cooperation with other Indy Partnership staff, identify & develop relationships with relevant Site Selectors, consultants, brokers and other service providers who regularly work on projects in our targeted industries.
- Demonstrate support for local economic development partners and maintain a working knowledge of all communities in the Indy Partnership region.
- Work with outside consultants, local economic development officials, investors, business leaders and Indy Partnership staff to identify targets and activities for the regional external sales effort.
- As needed or directed, coordinate domestic and international prospective business site visits to the region.
- Track activity and participation in conferences, events and visits, prospect and consultant outreach in the Salesforce database.
- Assist in the development of the department’s annual work plan and budget.
- Other duties as assigned by Indy Chamber leadership. This might include brief assignments working closely with other departments.
Qualifications
- Traveling up to 50% of time
- A minimum of 3-5 years or more of job-related experience including demonstrated success in an outside sales or customer development role and/or relevant economic development professional role with a track record of successful lead generation and prospect follow-up.
- Existing target industry relationships a plus but not required.
- Must have experience with managing a personal expense account and/or other budgetary responsibility.
- Must be adept at using Microsoft Office software, including Teams, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel, both PC based and on a Mobile device.
