Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The WIC Supervisor supports the WIC Clinic Manager in overseeing day-to-day operations of the four Variety Care WIC clinics. This position ensures quality service delivery, compliance with WIC policies, and coordination of clinic staff activities. The Supervisor will provide leadership, staff support, problem-solving, and ensure smooth clinic functioning while maintaining a client-centered approach.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise WIC staff including clerks and certifiers.
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, and training new staff.
- Monitor staff performance and assist with conducting annual evaluations.
- Provide coaching, support, and leadership to staff on a day-to-day basis.
- Approve staff time off requests and review/approve timecards in a timely manner.
- Be available outside of normal business hours to answer urgent staff calls or texts.
- Assist in scheduling to ensure adequate clinic coverage and staffing.
- Help resolve internal team conflicts or performance concerns professionally and promptly.
- Support the Clinic Manager in ensuring the clinic operates efficiently and in compliance with federal and state WIC regulations.
- Step into the role of WIC Certifier or WIC Clerk as needed to support clinic operations.
- Travel and work at various WIC locations as requested by the Clinic Manager.
- Monitor and maintain inventory of clinic supplies and forms.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the WIC Clinic Manager.
- Address and resolve client complaints or concerns in a respectful and timely manner.
- Ensure a welcoming, culturally competent, and inclusive environment for all clients.
- Maintain accurate and complete documentation according to WIC guidelines.
- Assist with preparation of audits, internal reviews, and required reports.
- Ensure staff documentation and client records meet program requirements.
- Serve as a liaison between the WIC Clinic Manager and front-line staff.
- Communicate updates, procedural changes, and program information to the team.
- Lead or assist with staff meetings, training sessions, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Provide direct WIC services when needed, including certifications, issuing benefits, and supporting breastfeeding education.
- Promote nutrition education and breastfeeding support within the clinic.
- Participate in outreach and community engagement activities.
Qualifications
Requirements, Special Skills or Knowledge:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish).
- Minimum of 2 years of WIC or public health experience.
- Prior supervisory or leadership experience.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to multitask and remain organized in a fast-paced setting.
- Willingness and ability to travel between clinic locations as needed.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and WIC guidelines.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced clinic environment.
- Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in stressful or emergency situations.
Preferred Requirements, Special Skills or Knowledge:
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in health, nutrition, public health or a related field preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of WIC program policies and procedures.
