About the Department
Under general supervision, the Solid Waste Service Worker supports the Public Works Solid Waste Division by delivering, repairing, and maintaining refuse containers. This is accomplished by performing semi-skilled maintenance work, which includes repairing refuse container wheels, lids, and axles, using a variety of vehicles and tools, and delivering new refuse containers.
Position Duties
Assembles, disassembles, and repairs refuse containers using a variety of tools.
Loads and unloads refuse containers onto and off trailers and vehicles.
Keeps accurate inventory records of containers and associated parts. Salvages usable parts from damaged containers that cannot be repaired.
Cleans used containers using a steam compressor.
Ensures all work orders are closed properly after work is completed.
Operates various vehicles and equipment, including forklifts and light-duty vehicles.
Work with Routeware software to load routes and interact with the public while in the field delivering cans.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or GED equivalency is required.
One year of general labor experience.
Valid Arizona Driver's License by the time of hire.
Other Qualifications
The position requires the ability to read worker orders, instruction manuals, emails, maps, routing materials, and other types of work-related materials and communications.
The position requires the ability to perform general math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
The position requires the ability to write work orders, reports, and logs.
No management responsibility over others. Must be able to manage time and assigned city resources.
The position has no responsibility for the direction or supervision of others.
Professional judgment is required to apply the proper course of action. Exercises initiative, independent analytical skills, and evaluative judgment.
The incumbents in this position may contact others within the organization. These contacts may involve similar work units or departments within the City. Employees must maintain regular work hours and be able to work in a constant state of alertness and safety.
