SUMMARY:
The Child Care Assistant, Lead plans, monitors, and facilitates classroom lessons and activities in a safe and comfortable learning environment for children. Demonstrates classroom management, teaching, and learning methods to high school students assisting in the preschool.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provides daily activities for structured learning with daily lessons according to their developmental stages. Follows and enforces established rules and regulations.
- Creates age-appropriate weekly lesson plans, materials, and activities for developmental learning. Maintain s student progress reports.
- Assists and provides direction to high school students how to manage and care for a classroom of preschool kids and develop and teach lessons according to developmental stages.
- Provides support and to parents and children to help children grow and develop. Communicates with parents regularly through written and verbal communication regarding their child’s progress, behavior, and daily activities.
- Sanitizes and inspects classroom equipment and materials for safety.
- Maintains records of daily attendance, illnesses, and health problems. Informs the Child Care Center Director of any concerns related to the children’s wellbeing.
- Prepares, serves, and stores food for meals and activities.
- Supervises the child care center in absence of the Child Care Center Director.
- Supports the relationship between the Phoenix Union High School District and the public by demonstrating courteous and professional behavior when interacting with students, parents, visitors, and school staff; maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, client records, and school information; follows Governing Board Policies; performs all other related duties as required or assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:
- High School diploma or GED required
At least 21 years of age and documentation of ONE of the following: - 12 months experience and 3 credit hours in ECE OR at least 30 training hours in early childhood, child development, or a closely related field.
- 12 months experience AND NAC/CDA/CCP/CC OR at least 24 hours including at least 6 credit hours in early childhood, child development, or a closely related field.
- 6 months experience AND an associate degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood, child development, or a closely related field.
- 3 months experience AND a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood, child development, or a closely related field.
License and Certification Requirements:
First Aid or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certified including CPR certification required within 30 days of employment and maintained current. Maricopa County Food Handlers Card, required. Tuberculosis test prior to employment and annually while employed. Possess Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card

- Skill in understanding, explaining, and applying technical skills, relevant rules, regulations, policies, safety protocols and procedures.
- Skill in coordinating the efforts of individuals and teams to complete projects and tasks.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and procedures.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to provide excellent customer experiences, including but not limited to interacting tactfully and courteously with the public.
- Commitment to create and sustain a thriving learning and working environment for students and staff.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to use initiative within organizational policies, procedures and guidelines.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in classroom environment with outdoor activities. May be exposed to contagious illnesses and bodily fluids. May be required to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
