The Maintenance Technician I assists in the general maintenance and repair/replacement of manufacturing equipment, buildings and property.

  • Assists with installation, maintenance, and repair of machines, equipment, and physical structures.
  • Performs preventive and scheduled maintenance tasks as required.
  • Inspects and tests machinery and equipment; discusses machine operation variations with supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problem or repair machine.
  • Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.

  • Installs and repairs basic electrical apparatus, such as outlets, plugs, extension cord reels, resets breakers, and changes fuses.
  • Repairs and replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment.
  • Repairs and maintains physical structure of establishment.
  • Sets up and operates machine tools such as grinders, drills, welders, and other machines for the purpose of repairs.
  • Troubleshoots mechanical systems.
  • Concisely communicates PM findings and work order activities.
  • Keeps work area clean and organized.

Requirements

Qualifications and Essential Skills:

  • Two (2) years of maintenance/equipment repair experience and/or formal training preferred. 
  • Ability to perform basic welding functions preferred. 

  • Previous experience operating skid steer, tractor, and pickup with mounted blade preferred.
  • Experience reading blue prints, technical manuals, and the like. 
  • Previous experience with mobile aerial man lifts, forklifts, and fixed rail cranes preferred. 
  • Good math skills are required; ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Proficient in reading a tape measure up to 1/32” and gauges/measurement tools.   
  • Basic computer skills are required; must be able to use computer systems to look-up information, clock-in/clock-out, and report work activities.  
  • Experience with hand tools including power tools such as impact drivers and drills.

While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; up to 8 hours in an 8 hour shift.  The employee will frequently lift 50 pounds and occasionally lift with assistance up to 100 pounds.  The employee will push/pull with up to 110 pounds of force. The employee will push down with 100 pounds of force at the waist level. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; stoop, kneel, crouch, walk, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb ladders or ride work platforms to access elevated equipment or balance, and talk or hear.  Regularly required to sit and interface with computer systems while maintaining high level of concentration.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration, and occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. Employee is required to wear steel toed shoes, gloves, and safety glasses.   The noise level in the plant shop environment is moderately loud. When working in the Paint and Clean areas employee is regularly exposed to hazardous chemicals.  Position involves working indoors and outdoors with some exposure to weather conditions. In addition to standard PPE, welders are required to wear a welding helmet and may be required to wear leather clothing.  Handles hazardous waste according to company policy and participates in annual hazardous waste training.
