Summary/Objective

The Plant Manager is directly responsible for the overall administration, coordination, and evaluation of the manufacturing processes. Responsibilities include overseeing the production process to ensure production processes run smoothly, efficiently, and cost-effectively. The Plant Manager works closely with all production departments to ensure production targets are met and the highest quality product standards are maintained.

  • Plan, organize, and direct the manufacturing operations to ensure the most effective return on assets.
  • Manage department supervisors and assist them with product flow issues and changes.
  • Review supervisor performance and identify training needs.
  • Administer assigned production schedules with the ability to adjust as needed to meet customer demands and minimize production costs.
  • Monitor production processes and adjust schedules as needed.
  • Collaborate with all departments to ensure that production targets are met.
  • Manage departmental performance measures, including visual controls and provide regular progress reports to department supervisors and senior leadership. 
  • Ensure effective employee relations by providing supervisor coaching and development.
  • Resolve employee issues through problem resolution.
  • Balance safety, quality, productivity, cost, and morale to achieve positive results in all areas. 
  • Continuously improve production output and reduce waste in the processes.
  • Manage Quality Deficiency Reports.
  • Track absenteeism and timekeeping.
  • Ensure that health and safety guidelines are followed.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position manages production department supervisors (excluding Scale Shop and Maintenance). This person is responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees within the production departments.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment and in an industrial manufacturing facility. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, laptops and cell phones and will require being present in the manufacturing environment on a frequent basis.

The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. This position regularly requires long hours and occasional weekend work.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration / Manufacturing or equivalent relevant experience
  • Five or more years’ experience in a manufacturing environment or related role
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in a production leadership role
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills

 Preferred Education and Experience

  • Master's degree in Business Administration or manufacturing related field
  • Eight years’ experience in manufacturing environment or related role
  • Eight years’ experience in a production leadership role
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Direct leadership in a manufacturing process environment is a plus
