About the Position

The Milken Institute is looking for a temporary Associate Director of Finance to help oversee general accounting operations by recording, reconciling and administering general transactions for our Institute.  This position is anticipated to last 4-6 months.

The temporary Associate Director of Finance responsibilities include reconciling account balances and bank statements, maintaining general ledger and preparing month-end close procedures. A successful temporary Associate Director of Finance combines excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial reports. 

The temporary Associate Director of Finance’s duties also include ensuring accuracy and effectiveness in all of our accounting tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Verify, allocate, post and reconcile various accounts across multiple subsidiaries
  • Support month-end and year-end close process
  • Provide billing support for the Institute’s Development department
  • Manage the creation and population of the fixed asset module of NetSuite with completed CIP
  • Prepare transactional journal entries throughout the month, including but not limited to: cash transfers, reallocations, revenue posting, etc.
  • Assist with the accounts payable and contributions receivable processes
  • Assist with financial statement audit and tax returns
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP principles
  • Analyze financial information and summarize financial status
  • Spot errors and suggest ways to improve efficiency and spending

Requirements

  • Two to four years of relevant accounting experience
  • Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures
  • In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Awareness of business trends
  • Familiarity with financial accounting statements
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
  • Hands-on experience with NetSuite (Required) 
  • Advanced MS Excel skills including Vlookups and pivot tables
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • BS degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant
  • CPA preferred

Working Conditions

This position will work in a professional office environment on a hybrid schedule consisting of three (3) days per week reporting in-person to the Santa Monica, CA office location (Tuesday – Thursday), with the remaining two (2) days working remotely.
