About the role
As the Senior Employee Relations (ER) Support Officer, you will be a strategic advisor providing guidance and support to school principals and Directors Educational Leadership (DELs), in managing complex employee matters. In this role you will also:
- Provide advice and support to enable effectives responses to union correspondence.
- Partner with principals and DELs to address employee relations issues in schools.
- Develop capability across school leadership in interpreting legislations and policies related to employee relations.
- Work with colleagues to improve employee relations and identify issues that may impact achieving desired outcomes.

About you
You approach complex and challenging matters with a calm, composed, strategic and solution-focused mindset. Working closely with senior executives and school leaders, you demonstrate:
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills to navigate sensitive or contentious matters effectively.
- Outstanding interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build and maintain trusted relationships.
- Effective negotiation and influencing skills to deliver advice with clarity and integrity.
- Awareness of department policies and procedures concerning employee relations.
Key Knowledge and Experience
- Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.
Essential requirements of the role
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or demonstrated equivalent knowledge, skills and experience.
- Holds a valid working with children check for paid employment
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
