Title: ELD Assistant - Secondary
Reports To: Principal and/or Assistant Principal
Takes Direction From: ESL Teacher, ESL Department Chair, and/or ESL District Coordinator
Schedule/Calendar: Elementary: 5 hours/day 25 hours/week 172 days/year
Summary: ESL Assistants aid teachers in instructing non-English speaking students learn to read, write, speak, and hear the English language while participating in general education classroom curriculum.
Essential Functions:
Provides students with introductory, supportive and/or supplemental instruction, and remediation and/or reinforcement of English language skills under the direction of the English Language Decelopment (ELD) teacher (previously known as ESL teacher)
Confers regularly with the classroom teacher to share student progress and to plan for future needs
Works with the classroom teacher to provide ESL students with accommodations and modifications to the regular classroom curricula
Helps train new ELD personnel in daily responsibilities
Works with students on preparation of special assignments, projects, tests and finals
Helps administer classroom or district-level tests
Additional duties as assigned by supervisor
Education and/or Certification Required:
