What is the role?
The BSA Analyst ensures compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) activity including Suspicious Activity Reporting (SAR), Customer Identification Program (CIP), Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), subpoena response and the U.S. Patriot Act requirements by investigating, analyzing and decisioning BSA-related cases, reports and alerts. Responsibilities include but are not limited to reviewing and investigation alerts; identifying suspicious activity; interpreting the Credit Union’s policy and procedures pertaining to BSA compliance; keeping up to date on regulations and ensuring timely reporting of suspected activity.
What will be expected of me?
- Performs daily review, monitoring, and analysis of various reports, logs and transaction data to identify trends, unusual activity, and monitor large currency activity; determines if transactions are suspicious in nature, such as kiting, significant changes in balances, cash structuring in deposits, loan payments and certificate of deposit purchases, wire or ACH transfers, monetary instrument sales, new account openings, etc.
- Maintains current knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act and all related anti-money laundering and OFAC regulations.
- Assists in the compliance with 314(a) and 314(b) (PATRIOT Act) responsibilities.
- Investigate referrals of potential suspicious account activity to determine and recommend appropriate resolution (e.g. completion of a SAR, exit relationship or continued monitoring). Analyze and decision BSA-related exceptions (e.g. CIP discrepancies, OFAC list matching, Transaction Monitoring Alerts).
- Conduct all report submissions within the timeliness and guidelines per regulatory requirements.
- Utilize internal and external applications to assist in the investigation and research of all BSA exceptions; proactively work to resolve existing BSA exceptions in a timely manner.
- Assist External Auditors/Examiners as assigned as it related to BSA/AML.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge regarding auditing rules, regulations, best practices, tools, techniques and performance standards.
- Comply with the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and other compliance requests and requirements.

What am I bringing?
Experience/Education:
- 2+ years of experience in a BSA/AML risk-focused role involving compliance monitoring, investigations, or analysis beyond basic transaction reporting duties.
- Associate’s degree or equivalent related experience in retail banking, compliance, fraud, audit or operations required.
- Knowledge of Bank Secrecy Act, USA PATRIOT Act, OFAC regulations required.
- Knowledge of financial products and services preferred.
- Experience with SAR/CTR Filings with FinCEN preferred.
- Financial crime investigation experience preferred.

What is the work environment like, and are there physical requirements for this role?
- Hybrid: Typically, a dispersed, flexible team environment both on Westerra campus (2x/week) and remote. Employees must reside in Colorado or be willing to relocate prior to starting employment. Residency is required for payroll and state tax purposes.

Salary: in addition to the starting hourly rate of $21.72 - $27, this role is also eligible for Westerra’s self-funding reward plan. This plan pays out a cash incentive annually if Westerra hits specific criteria tied to financial goals and this role has a direct impact on the outcome of those results!
