The Ceramics Adjunct Instructor and Technical Supervisor will oversee facilities, budget, and safety in a dynamic Ceramics program servicing art majors and non-art majors. Additionally, they will teach a 3-credit, introductory course in Ceramics every semester (with an additional stipend). This is a half-time position, expected to work 20 hours per week.
Primary Duties:
- Teach a college introduction-level class in Ceramics.
- Capable of performing all duties required to maintain/manage the following: gas and electric kilns, pottery wheels, clay and glaze making equipment and materials, studio supplies, inventory, and studio order and cleanliness.
- Assist ceramics emphasis students.
- The ceramic program is looking for a person who is motivated toward evolving their ceramic work, as well as gaining experience as a university ceramics studio technical supervisor.
- Perform other duties as required/assigned by the Department Chair.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- BFA in Ceramics
- Ability and knowledge to teach an intro-level class in Ceramics.
- Maintain/manage all aspects of a well-equipped university ceramic studio facility.
- Basic welding and woodworking skills.
- Solid understanding of clay mixing and glaze calculation.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- MFA in Ceramics & Teaching Experience, including TA level
Salary / Benefits: Starting at $22,880 per year, commensurate with experience. The teaching portion starting salary is $1,000 per contact hour per semester of teaching, commensurate with experience. There are no additional benefits associated with this position.
Working Conditions: The current Ceramics facilities include ample workspace for group and individual projects, as well as individual studios for BFA majors. The studios provide a complete array of resources for students, including clay production and slip casting equipment, throwing wheels, and materials for glaze preparation, as well as gas, electric, and raku kilns. The facility includes a hand-building area, a wheel-throwing area, a clay mixing room, a glaze lab, a kiln room, a computer and periodical room, and storage facilities.
