Hybrid Veterinary Technician or Assistant-Urgent Care presso Vets Pets

The Urgent Care Veterinary Technician will provide critical care nursing, triage patients, coordinate their care, and provide them with care before and after surgery by taking their vitals, performing phlebotomy duties, and providing intramuscular (IM), intravenous (IV) and subcutaneous (SQ) injections. They will discuss treatments and disease processes with clients, systematize and track patient diagnostics, and communicate with clients, veterinarians, and pharmacies regarding patients' needs.

This position is on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 7:45am-8:00pm with the possibility of extended hours due to client needs and work volumes.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Triaging incoming emergency patients and managing their care throughout their visit.
• Assisting the veterinarian with the assessment, diagnostics, procedures and treatments.
• Obtaining TPR, blood pressure using a Doppler ultrasonic device.
• Intubating, inducing and monitoring patients under anesthesia.
• Assisting with treatments of hospitalized patients.
• Must be proficient in phlebotomy and IV catheter placement.
• Beginning the medical record and physical exam report, entering charges into the computer, updating treatment orders and maintaining detailed and accurate medical records.
• Providing exceptional customer service to clients both in the hospital and over the phone. Assisting in taking radiographs
• Medication calculation and administration. Monitor Surgical procedures.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Ability to work with or around sick animals, potentially hazardous materials, cleaning chemicals, gas anesthetics, and unpleasant odors.

Physical Requirements:?

• Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time and walk intermittently.
• Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
• Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

Education and Experience:

• Experience working in a veterinary emergency or critical care setting.
• Strong understanding of veterinary emergency procedures, patient handling, and basic medical terminology.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with the veterinary team and pet owners in a professional and compassionate manner.
• Demonstrated care and empathy for canine and feline patients, providing comfort and reassurance to patients in distress.
• Strong observational skills and attention to detail to accurately report patient behavior and condition to the veterinary team.
• Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Successful completion of the Veterinary Tech National Exam and Registered in North Carolina highly preferred.
• At least 1-year surgery and/or anesthesia related experience.
