GENERAL SUMMARY:
Saginaw Public Schools Hospitality and Tourism Instructor and Work-Based Learning is responsible for Designing instruction and teaching students in the area of hospitality and tourism. This potion is in partnership with the Bavarian Inn and the classroom experience will be held in Frankenmuth, MI. In additional to providing high quality instruction, this position will also focus on coordinating placement experiences that will prepare students to meet industry-recognized requirements for employment and continuing education in high skill, high wage, high demand careers. They will also be responsible for planning, organizing, and supporting professional skills development activities and assignments to prepare for a future career.

Physical Demands – While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand and/or walk, drive up to 60 miles, round trip, be exposed to high dust and odor facilities, and maybe required to tour facilities with stairs. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and deliver high quality instruction in the area of Hospitality and Tourism
- Submit lesson plans weekly to ensure program quality
- Actively recruit and promote the Hospitality program to increase enrollment & expand it into a full day
- Coordinate immersive onsite and work-based learning experiences and training opportunities for students with local business partners.
- Coordinate immersive onsite experiences and training opportunities with local business partners through site visits, zoom meetings, phone calls, emails, company events, etc.
- Actively recruit business partners to participate in supporting SCC students for professional skill development, work based learning, and professional business day.
- Complete all paperwork required for student placement using online software and resources
- Maintain up to date documentation of all work based learning students, sites, and training agreements using online software accessible to admin and partner coordinators.
- Maintain all required Skyward information (Attendance, grades. Etc.) to support program.
- Participate in all professional development necessary to retain new information provided by the state each year for work-based learning.
- Review individual resumes and portfolios via collaborative software and provide feedback to ensure students are ready for future interviews
- Maintain consistent parent communication
- Organize and support mock/practice interviews with students in assigned programs
- Work collaboratively with staff at SCC to Organize work-based learning opportunities for (ALL) students enrolled at SCC. This includes working collaboratively with and supporting other placement coordinators to create immersive onsite experiences and training opportunities with local business partners through site visits, zoom meetings, phone calls, emails, company events, etc.
- Complete all paperwork required for student placement using online software and resources (training agreements, evaluations, ACEMAP, student background, liability, etc.)
- Support CTSO coordinator, CTSO activities and events as needed.
- Actively participate in Saginaw Career Complex advisory committee meetings and provide data for WBL to employers.
- Communicate effectively with professionals and parents.
- Participate and support school wide events and activities at SCC
- Chaperone field trips related to Work-Based Learning as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: - Valid State of Michigan Secondary Teaching certificate or Standard/Professional CTE Certificate or Prov/Prof Certificate with VT
OR - Minimum of 4000 documented hours of recent and relevant work experience in the area of hospitality, tourism, business, marketing, etc. within the last ten (10) years.
- Successful teaching or training desired but not required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: - Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Sheets, Forms, and Docs
- Personal vehicle needed for travel to meet with employers offsite and visit worksites for safety check and student observation.
WORKING CONDITIONS: (varies depending on CTE program) - School environment where there may be physical discomfort due to temperature, dust or the like, as well industry condition from worksites.
- Noise level in this environment may be moderate to loud
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain travel information for mileage reporting. Traveling to Frankenmuth daily and to SCC as needed.
CURRICULA RESPONSIBILITIES:
Organize and implement an instructional program and delivery system that will prepare students to meet industry recognized requirements for employment and continuing education
METHOD OF EVALUATION:
The Building Administrator evaluates this position every year. The evaluation form is available from the Human Resources and Labor Relations Department.
