Education/Certification Required:
- High School graduate or equivalent and 48 college hours
Experience Required:
- General office and use of computers
- Experience working with students with behavioral challenges
- De-escalation experience

Function
The Special Education Para Itinerant is assigned to locations based on student needs by the Office of Special Education and can be reassigned as needed at any time by the Office of Special Education. The Special Education Para Itinerant assists in implementing the students' individualized Education Program (IEP/BIP), participates in selecting, planning, organizing and evaluating materials, and models de-escalation techniques, as appropriate for student needs.

Responsibilities:
Instruction
- Plans with teacher for the development and implementation of the IEP/BIP
- Aids teacher(s) in preparing and using behavorial and instructional materials
- Instructs students and groups of students under the teacher's/administrator's direction
- Assists students with behavorial and learning activities
- Provides community-based instruction as directed by teacher/administrator
- Accompanies students to mainstream settings working under the direction of the classroom teacher, including the cafeteria, library, field trips, assemblies, pep rallies, and other activities
- Behavior
- Assists in monitoring and data collection of student behavior in the classroom and other areas
- Assists in the implementation and documentation of the student behavior management plan as directed by teacher/administrator
- Ability to perform and mode disengagement, non-restrictive, and restraint skills as needed (following district procedures)
Physical
- Gives physical assistnace to students as needed, including toileting, feeding, positioning, locomotion, and other services
- Assists with physical education activities and provides direct instruction as directed by the teacher
- Provides in-pool assistance and instruction to students in the aquatics program
- Materials
- Provides assistance to teacher in the preparation, usage, and storage of instructional materials. including bulletin boards, displays, centers, and media equipment
- Assists in keeping the classroom and restroom clean during the school day
- Community-Based Instruction
- Accompanies students via public transportation to community-based training sites and provides direct instruction as directed by the teacher
Transportation
- Assists and/or monitors the transportation of students
Clerical
- Assists in maintaining student record, including grades, attendance, and student folders
- Assists in collating information and preparing reports, including emrollments, class counts, and contact hours
- Assists in the development and production of IEPs and BIP
- Obtains and disseminates information regarding student lessons and progress
Testing
- Assists in testing routines
- Scores objective measurement instruments
Other
- Performs other duties as assigned by the campus administrator

Working Conditions:
- Challenging situations, local in-District travel, and moderate to heavy lifting
- Ability to receive information and/or instruction from internal/external customers through spoken expression
- Ability to manipulate tools/equipment/keyboards
- Ability to convey information and/or instruction to internal/external customers through spoken expression
- Ability to perform work while standing and/or walking for extended periods, up to eight (8) hours a day
