JOB SUMMARY:

This employee will be a member of the Thrift Store team, which is focused on baling and material handling in the store. Service to the customers, donors, and clients; receiving/processing donations and being able to assist with restocking and pulling merchandise. This position will be primarily responsible for the warehouse/donation area, but the individual needs to be willing to be flexible and perform other tasks when needed.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Load and unload clothing baler while following SVDP safety protocols
  • Maintain production goals while working on the clothing baler
  • Receive and process donations based on the SVdP Take/Do Not Take list guidelines, packing and loading items onto a semi-trailer or into the stock room as appropriate
  • Assist donors with unloading donations and loading purchased merchandise into customer vehicles
  • Provide customer and donor assistance throughout the store and donation areas: answer questions, anticipate donors and customers’ needs, offer help, and encourage sales
  • Restock & rotate merchandise on sales floor, accurately price, and mark down items as needed, pull and sort product in accordance with company guidelines and safety protocols
  • Communicate the needs of the donation area and warehouse to store management, including donor/customer issues, supplies needed and other departmental needs.
  • Keeping accurate counts of incoming product and maintaining a clean and organized donation area and stockroom.
  • Assists managers in ensuring that safety guidelines are being adhered to and notifying management of potential issues, hazards and unsafe practices.
  • Readily handle multiple job functions, keep work areas neat and clean, prioritize tasks and possess good decision-making skills
  • Help maintain the cleanliness of the store, perform cleaning duties on a rotating assignment list
  • Support the effort to create a more inclusive and equitable organization. Participate in an atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration, listening, fostering dialogue, and facilitating joint problem-solving while supporting an inclusive and equitable organization.
  • Adhere to the Safeguarding Policy by ensuring timely completion of mandatory training, staying updated on relevant training modules, and undergoing the necessary background checks to maintain compliance.

Daily assignments will rotate based on staffing and operational needs. An individual in this position must successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above. QUALIFICATIONS & KEYS TO SUCCESS

This position requires frequent communication and assistance among numerous departments. Therefore, this individual must:

  • Be able to work independently and adapt to ever-changing needs, job assignments and priorities.
  • Participate in the SVdP Drug & Alcohol Testing Program for Safety Sensitive Positions, including passing pre-employment drug tests 30 days from the hire date and testing as needed after any incident or reasonable suspicion.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate and effectively interact with people across cultures, ranges of ability, ethnicities, and races. OR is willing to communicate and interact effectively with individuals from diverse cultures, varying abilities, ethnicities, and races.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Keep management informed of safety concerns, problems, supplies needed, and whatever is essential to the smooth running of the SVDP Thrift Store
  • Must have the ability to appropriately prioritize daily and immediate tasks
  • Must have the ability to perform any duties assigned by management to help the overall performance of the SVDP Thrift Store.
  • Demonstrated success working in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
  • Continual learner, willing to seek additional opportunities to gain experience, knowledge and skills. Must be able to fulfill job duties/responsibilities with minimal direction.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

The mental and physical requirements described here represent those that an individual must meet to perform the essential functions of this position successfully. While performing the duties of this job:

  • Employee must have the ability to maintain professional, patient and courteous interactions with a diverse base of customers, donors, clients and other SVdP staff
  • Employee must frequently stand, walk, talk and hear, use hands to handle or touch product, tools, or controls.
  • Stand at workstation for 3 hours between breaks
  • Employees must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds without assistance and occasionally lift/move up to 75 lbs. with assistance from equipment or another person.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Employee must be able to follow instructions and work autonomously on assigned job duties
  • Employee must be able to work assigned shifts consistently and reliably

The Thrift store and Processing Center working environment may contain dust, debris or allergens commonly associated with all manner of pre-owned clothing, furniture and household goods. Certain areas of the facilities are only partially climate controlled.
