We are seeking a detail-oriented and results-driven Staff Accountant II to join our team. This role focuses on ensuring the accuracy of financial transactions, performing reconciliations, and maintaining compliance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, a commitment to accuracy, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. While a CPA designation is not required, it is considered highly beneficial.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform detailed account reconciliations and review transactions for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with SOPs, GAAP, and federal regulations.
- Support audit readiness by preparing and maintaining schedules, work papers, and documentation for internal and external audits.
- Assist in the coordination of audit response activities, including tracking and resolving audit findings in compliance with HHS and OMB requirements.
- Ensure transactional accuracy across all financial systems by reviewing entries, detecting discrepancies, and initiating corrective actions.
- Monitor and maintain compliance with Payment Integrity and Fraud Risk standards through regular financial data validation and error analysis.
- Prepare, review, and submit required financial reports and deliverables in accordance with government deadlines and contractual obligations.
- Document and recommend improvements to accounting processes and internal controls to enhance compliance and operational efficiency.
- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, including journal entries and variance analysis.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate financial data reporting and alignment with audit and compliance goals.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- Minimum of 5 years progressive accounting experience in a federal contracting or government agency environment.
- CPA certification beneficial but not required.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, OMB Circulars (A-123, A-136, etc.), and federal financial management standards.
- Experience with audit coordination and resolving audit findings.
- Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities, with the capability to interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
