SUMMARY OF POSITION
Under general supervision of the Airport Maintenance Crew Leader, this position will conduct airfield and facility maintenance. Additional responsibilities include tasks related to airport operational safety, security and environmental protection programs. Employees in this classification perform skilled and manual work. Performs related work as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Communicates with the Air Traffic Control Tower (ATC) when duties require access to the movement area (taxiways & runway) and operates vehicles and equipment in a safe manner.
- Maintains the physical grounds of the airport to include the following activities: cuts grass, trims trees and shrubs, tends and plants flower beds, sprays fertilizers and insecticides as needed, removes trash from lawns and parking lots, etc.
- Performs painting, cleaning, maintenance and repair on airport property, structures, and facilities, i.e., gates, fences, flood lights, airfield lighting, signage and buildings.
- Conducts daily and periodic self-inspections of the airfield to ensure compliance with FAA regulations.
- Implements day-to-day activities of the Pavement Management Plan (PMP).
- Performs day-to-day activities outlined in the airports Wildlife Hazard Management Plan (WHMP) to include monitoring, harassment, trapping, dispersal and depredation and removal of wildlife. Investigates and submits FAA Bird Strike reports as needed.
- Performs day-to-day activities outlined in the airports Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) and Spill Prevention and Countermeasure Control Plan (SPCC) to include quarterly and periodic inspections.
- Operates complex equipment in the removal of snow and ice from runways, taxiways, ramps, airfield entrances and parking lots.
- Respond to operational and aircraft incidents and emergencies on a 24 hour basis. Coordinates the removal of disabled or damaged aircraft and submits Aircraft Incident/Accident Reports as needed.
- Monitors the airport grounds for hazards and security related issues with regard to FAA regulations
- Remains current in all required training to include but not limited to; AAAE Airport Operations, WHMP, SWPPP, SPCC, AEP and SICP.
- Monitors and enters Notice to Airman (NOTAMS) as needed.
- Removes foreign object debris (FOD) from the Air Operations Area (AOA) and other areas of the airport.
- Maintains the airport maintenance facility in an organized and orderly fashion.
- Performs preventive maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment and coordinates other maintenance and repairs as necessary.
- Utilizes various manual, gas, and hand held electrical tools and equipment in installing or repairing facilities, equipment, fences, or related structures, i.e., saws, welders, drills, hammers, shovels.
- Purchases tools, supplies and equipment necessary for duties and responsibilities.
- Assists in the review of maintenance and operational procedures.
- Acts as airport and city representative during weekends and holidays.

- Requires the ability to utilize a variety of advisory data and information, such as FAA advisory circulars, NOTAMs, Pavement Management Plan, Wildlife Hazard Management Plan, SWPPP, SPCC, rules and regulations, City ordinances, codes and policy manuals.
- Knowledge of FAA regulations and other federal, state and local regulations that affect maintenance and operations of an airport.
- Ability to respond in a timely fashion after hours and on holidays and weekends. When needed serve in a "on call" position to respond to aircraft and facility emergencies at the airport.
- Requires the ability to use a vehicle and/or portable air band radio and communicate with the air traffic control tower when duties must be performed on taxiways and runways.
- Requires ability to operate a vehicle on aircraft parking aprons, taxiways and runways in a safe manner.
- Requires the ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, materials, pyrotechnics and firearms used in performing essential functions.
- Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; ability to calculate decimals and percentages; ability to utilize principles of fractions; ability to interpret graphs.
- Requires ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.
- Requires the ability provide guidance, assistance, and/or interpretation to others on how to apply procedures and standards to specific situations.
- Requires the ability to work independent of regular supervision.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by three (3) years previous experience and/or training involving general maintenance laborer, technician or maintenance equipment operator or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications may be an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
AAAE Airport Certified Employee (ACE) credential highly desirable.
Minimum of 2 years of experience working at an airport highly desirable.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Must pass a drug screen and background check.
- Must have Class C Texas Driver's License
Other Qualifications
This position requires frequent using one's hands to touch, handle or feel objects; reaching with hands and arms; talking and hearing. Following abilities may be required between one and two-thirds of on-the-job time: lifting and / or exerting force up to fifty (50) pounds, standing, walking, sitting, climbing or balancing. Special vision requirements include: close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job does require exposure to certain environmental conditions. Tasks may require frequent exposure to: working near aircraft, moving mechanical parts; and outdoor weather conditions. Occasional exposure may be required to: wet or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and extreme cold or heat.
