POSITION TYPE: Regular Full-Time, Non-Exempt (hourly), Benefits Eligible
SUPERVISORY CONTROL: Education Supervisor
Expected Hours of Work
· Regular hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., with a half hour unpaid lunch break.
· Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
· 37.5 hours per week for 42 weeks per year.
· Travel is not typically expected but may arise as job duties demand.
Required Education and Experience
· A high school diploma or a GED certificate and 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education, or the human services field.
· OR a high school diploma or a GED certificate, 15 credit hours from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and one year of experience with children.
· OR a high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and two years’ experience working with children.
Essential Functions
· Implement the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) philosophy and/or strategies in the workplace (classroom, families’ homes, office, off-site trainings, community, etc.) at all times.
· Learn, understand and cooperate with the philosophy and curriculum of the program.
· In conjunction with the teacher, plan and prepare developmentally appropriate activities to enhance the individual development of each child.
· Be a positive model for substitutes, volunteers and others working with the children.
· Maintain records or reports that are necessary for the children or the program. This includes, but not limited to, lesson plans, attendance sheets, developmental assessments, take-home notes for parents, accident reports, anecdotes, etc. Give reports to the appropriate person for filing.
· Complete developmental assessments three times a year for each child.
· Maintain daily open communication with parents (newsletters, parent bulletin board, take home papers, phone calls, etc.)
· In the absence of the teacher, assume responsibility for the daily operation of the classroom.
· Be responsible for administering medication, ensuring that permission slips for medication and medication logs are properly completed and given to the appropriate person for filing.
· Be responsible for notifying parents when a child is ill and arrange with the parent a suitable pick-up time.
· Maintain current certifications in First Aid and CPR to ensure readiness in emergency situations.
· Complete ongoing Emergency Response Plans and Fire Safety Training, including evacuation procedures and use of fire suppression equipment.
· Supervise closely and interact with children in all activity areas, inside and outside, with an appropriate sense of accountability. Assist children to be self- reliant and to relate to others.
· Keeping in mind the individual development of each child, work toward social, nutritional, physical, emotional and cognitive goals appropriate to each individual child’s needs.
· Supervise and help direct the activities of substitutes, volunteers, and others working with children.
· Establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment. Keep materials in good repair and stored in a safe orderly fashion.
· Attend weekly meetings with the education team to bring forward issues, concerns, ideas, and problems.
· Maintain daily health routines with the children, including brushing teeth and hand washing.
· Be responsible for the assigned computer hardware and software. Perform regular maintenance functions and other duties as outlined in the agency’s written procedure on computer systems.

Requirements
· Will frequently exert up to 50 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
· Be able to bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, reach above shoulder level, sit on the floor on a daily basis, and/or to ascend/descend a step stool or step ladder.
· Must be capable of providing written and oral information, both in person and over the telephone.
· Must pass a physical exam and background checks.
