About the Department
The purpose of this position is to create an opportunity for student staff to gain practical work experience while overseeing aquatic programs and personnel for the Department of Recreation and Wellness. Oversee various Aquatic personnel, programs, schedule, and events in the SRC aquatic facilities.

Position Duties
- Have working knowledge of lifeguard responsibilities.
- Enforce facility policies and procedures.
- Oversee and assist with pool maintenance, cleaning, and general upkeep.
- General understanding of the operation of the entire facility.
- Ongoing review of day-to-day operations to provide input for the betterment of the program.
- Be consistent with all staff and enforce all rules and regulations.
- Assist Aquatics GA and Director in planning and implementing monthly in-service trainings.
- Develop risk management training materials and audit rescue skills of lifeguard staff.
- Provide motivation, promote positive culture, and leadership for aquatics staff.
- Interview, hire, train, and schedule Aquatic staff members.
- Oversee and process Aquatic staff schedule, shift trades, and substitutions.
- Serve on Recreation and Wellness Student Supervisor Employee Board (SEB).
- Maintain open communication with Aquatics Director and Aquatics Graduate Assistant.
- Work at least 2 lifeguard shifts per week.
- Serve an active role in the student disciplinary meetings.
- Monitor student employees and report on their performance.
- Fulfill scheduled office hours.
- Serve as primary contact to student employees when issues arise.
- Perform any other duties as required by the professional staff.
- Represent professional staff in their absence.
- Promote the mission of Recreation and Wellness.
- Follow up and check on daily records, facility checks, cleaning tasks, and daily pool schedule.
- Attend weekly supervisor meeting with Aquatics Director and GA.
- Meet with each Aquatics Staff member 1-on-1 once per semester.
- Administer evaluations and conduct follow-up.
- Provide excellent customer service and leadership.
- May be required to work special events outside regular operation hours.
Minimum Qualifications
- Individuals with at least 1 year of lifeguarding experience.
- Must be certified as an LGI or willing to obtain certification.
- Certified as American Red Cross Lifeguard, which includes the following certifications:
- Lifeguarding
- CPR AED for Professional Rescuers
- First Aid
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to work well in a team.
- Student Supervisor must commit to working up to 15 hours per week and be available to work over academic breaks.
- Preferred 2.5 GPA.
- Highest degree of responsibility.
