About the Department

The University Libraries at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP), invites applicants for a part-time, temporary faculty position as the Instruction Librarian for the 2025-2026 academic year.

Position Purpose:

Promote the integration of the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education across undergraduate and graduate programs while overseeing the Libraries’ instructional activities. Evaluate information literacy initiatives and routinely revise the library instruction curriculum to ensure it supports these efforts. Ensure all improvements support IUP’s commitment to student success, retention, and its broader research and academic mission.

Duties:

  • Collaborate with subject faculty and librarians to integrate library resources and information literacy skills into curricula.
  • Design and deliver information literacy instruction sessions, both in-person and online, for undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Develop and maintain the Library Instruction pages of the IUP Libraries website including research guides, videos, and tutorials for students and faculty.
  • Track and evaluate the effectiveness of instructional programs and services.
  • Provide reference and research assistance to students, faculty, and staff through a variety of platforms.
  • Provide service to IUP Libraries, the university, the profession, and the community.
  • Maintain professional currency and scholarly growth.

Work Schedule:
This is a part-time (17.5 hours/week), temporary, 9-month appointment. The schedule offers some flexibility, including the opportunity for some remote workdays. Availability for evening and Saturday hours is necessary to accommodate classes scheduled during those times.

Position Duties

Required:

  • Master’s degree in library or information science from an ALA-accredited program.
  • Familiarity with instructional technologies and online teaching tools.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student learning and academic support.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience providing instruction or research support in health sciences disciplines.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practice and information resources in the health sciences.

Minimum Qualifications

The work of this position occurs in a typical office environment. Although infrequent, periods of heavy exertion may occur. Incumbent must have the following abilities: 
   

  • Ability to travel to field locations and meeting/training sites by motor vehicle when required.    
  • Communicate both orally and in writing to issue, receive and carry out instructions and orders effectively and to convey information to a variety of co-workers and the general public.    
  • Use a variety of common office machines such as telephones, calculators, copiers, computer terminals, keyboards, video display terminals, auxiliary printers and similar equipment.    
  • Perform manual duties such as lifting and carrying various weight limits.    
  • Operate office equipment which may require stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching and prolonged standing.    
  • Provide assistance and guidance to internal and external customers.
