About the Department
This position is responsible for providing effective instruction for the Dental Hygiene curriculum and for planning and coordination of student clinical experiences.
Position Duties

*Serves as lead faculty for the Dental Hygiene clinical courses and liaison for the Dental Hygiene Department Head and the Dental Hygiene faculty, with affiliating clinical agencies; maintains ongoing communications with all faculty, staff and affiliating agencies to discuss, arrange, and improve clinical experiences and rotations.
*Teaches clinical and/or didactic courses in accordance with published course descriptions and as listed in the schedule of courses at a reduced load
*Coordinates clinical education with didactic education as assigned by the Department Head
*Communicates with the Dental Hygiene Department Head regarding clinical needs
*Selects learning experiences that facilitate the student attainment of course student learning outcomes
*Requests off-campus clinical rotations with clinical agencies as needed, ensures affiliation agreements are established and up-to-date, and makes clinical site visits at least one time each semester to assure adequacy of the clinical experience*Coordinates with the Health Sciences Clinical Compliance Administrator and verifies that all health requirements for students are met according to the affiliation agreement for each clinical site and CODA standards
*Reviews student on-campus patient care requirements as well as off-campus experiences to ensure adequate clinical experience
*Schedules students for clinical rotations to ensure effective learning experiences
*Participates in overall program evaluation to maintain compliance with the standards established by the American Dental Association, Commission on Dental Accreditation (ADA, CODA)
*Compiles and analyzes enrollment data to project need for part time faculty and to assess student completion rates; coordinates the TLC Skills Labs for the department
*Performs course documentation duties for those courses assigned; Instructs and guides the class in an efficient and effective manner
*Maintains accurate scholastic records of students enrolled in classes and submits required reports to the Program Director and to the registrar
*Grades and returns student work in a timely manner
Collaborates with the Dental Hygiene Department Head, Faculty, and Staff to adequately budget for equipment, supplies, and professional development needs for the Dental Hygiene department.
Reviews and recommends additions to library holdings, textbooks and audio-visual or other teaching aids
Supports the department head to help assure effective program operation
Participates in the Dental Hygiene Program assessment process
Cooperates with the program director in periodic review and revision of clinical course materials to include assuming the lead role in Dental Hygiene Clinic Manual revisions, clinical forms and protocol revision, Clinical Mock Boards, and a quality assurance plan for clinic to include QA of charts, chart audits and a patient satisfaction survey
Serves as the final decision maker concerning clinical day-to-day needs to ensure faculty are calibrated and students follow protocol, with input from the Dental Hygiene Department Head and clinical faculty as needed
Organizes and maintains laboratory and clinical areas along with the Dental Hygiene Clinic Technician, including physical facilities, equipment and materials in a clean, neat, operating condition, when applicable
Serves as administrator of the clinical software systems and liaison to the software companies
Serves as the Infection Control and Safety Officer (with assistance from the DEN 111 course director and Clinic Technician) for the Dental Hygiene Clinic
Serves as the Radiation Safety Officer (with assistance from the DEN 112 course director and Clinic Technician) for the Dental Hygiene Clinic and administrator of radiation safety badges for clinic and labs
Maintains current knowledge of the discipline and educational methodologies through continuing professional development and is able to prove expertise in the courses assigned
Participates in continuing professional education and community activities related to Dental Hygiene
Maintains current knowledge of program policies, procedures, and student progress
Maintains communication with instructors from other divisions in order to keep courses up-to-date and appropriate
Actively participates in student recruitment, faculty committees and departmental meetings; assists with planning and serving in leadership; leads clinic calibration meetings and calibration exercises for clinical faculty, organizes and trains clinical faculty advisors, leads the training of new clinical faculty and serves as the lead for answering clinical questions
Provides regular and timely feedback to students regarding academic progress
Maintains regular office hours
Assists with tracking of completion or reentry of students for the Dental Hygiene program
Completes the clinical orientation of students entering the Dental Hygiene program
Participates in graduation exercises
Minimum Qualifications

Ability to work independently on a wide variety of professional tasks
Exhibit strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills to deal effectively with the various college staff, faculty, students and members of the community
Ability to work with a diverse student population to help them reach their maximum potential
Proficiency in curriculum design, program administration, evaluation, instruction, and academic advising
Demonstrate resourcefulness, initiative, enthusiasm, and a sincere interest in helping students reach their maximum potential
Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree
Graduate of an American Dental Association (ADA), Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) accredited Dental Hygiene Program

Certified to provide Local Anesthesia in NC
Licensed Dental Hygienist in the state of North Carolina
CPR Certified
Preferences:
Masters' degree, preferably in Dental Hygiene or related field
Two years clinical and/or didactic teaching experience
Background in educational methodology
