High Desert PACE is seeking a dual-role Dietary Manager and Registered Dietitian to oversee and supervise our entire dietary program. This individual will be a key member of our interdisciplinary team, ensuring the nutritional needs of our participants are met with the highest standards of care.

Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Dietary Manager and Registered Dietitian will be responsible for both the clinical and operational aspects of our dietary services. This includes comprehensive nutritional assessments, therapeutic diet management, menu planning, and overseeing all kitchen operations and staff.

Responsibilities

Clinical & Programmatic

  • Serve as an active member of the interdisciplinary team (IDT), conducting initial, annual, and unscheduled nutritional assessments and reassessments.
  • Develop and implement individualized nutritional plans of care, including creating physician orders for special diets.
  • Monitor therapeutic diets and special modifications, communicating any concerns to the IDT.
  • Determine the need for and order liquid nutritional supplements as required.
  • Assess participants’ access to food at home and make appropriate referrals for services like meal preparation, Meals on Wheels, and grocery assistance.
  • Provide basic nutrition education to participants, their families, and High Desert PACE staff.
  • Participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities to continuously enhance dietary services.

Supervisory & Managerial

  • Supervise the Kitchen Supervisor, including regular meetings, performance appraisals, and set clear expectations.
  • Participate in the hiring, orientation, training, and development of dietary staff.
  • Plan, create, implement, and monitor the adequacy of lunch and snack menus for the center.
  • Manage daily kitchen operations, including meal rounds and sanitation inspections.
  • Maintain a safe and sanitary working environment in compliance with all High Desert PACE policies.
  • Regularly monitor and manage the inventory of refrigerated, frozen, and dry goods.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact with all dietary vendors.
  • Monitor dietary expenditures, complete budget reports, and forecast future budgetary needs.

Education & Training

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in food science, nutrition, or dietetics.
  • Current Registered Dietitian (RD) certification from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
  • A minimum of one year of documented experience working with a frail or elderly population.
  • Medically cleared for communicable diseases and up-to-date on all immunizations before direct participant contact.

Skills & Abilities

  • Comprehensive knowledge of clinical nutrition, therapeutic diets, and medical terminology.
  • Proven ability to assess clients' nutritional needs and document care effectively.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact courteously and professionally with participants, families, staff, and vendors.
  • Effective partnership and management skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively within a team and maintain the confidentiality of all participant and company information.

Working Conditions

  • This role requires a full range of body motion, including standing, walking, bending, and reaching for prolonged periods.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and push/pull objects exceeding 150 pounds with proper body mechanics.
  • The work environment can be noisy and crowded with fluctuating temperatures. This position may also require managing situations with participants who may have the potential for verbal or physical aggression.
  • Must be able to work under stressful conditions and adhere to a flexible schedule.
  • The use of a personal vehicle may be required for certain duties.
