Design and implement practices and events, including assessing skills, teaching, and assigning roles to cheerleaders.
Communicate all schedules with school, squad and caregivers.
Develop practice schedule and organize practices to provide both individual and team development;
Work with Athletic Director/Designee in scheduling facilities for practices and competitions;
Establish and maintain standards of student athlete behavior and provide proper supervision of athletes at all times;
Monitor academic performance of squad members to ensure eligibility requirements;
Model sportsperson-like behavior and maintain appropriate professional conduct by being a positive role model for cheerleaders;
Follow established procedures for uniforms and equipment;
Assist with the ordering of uniforms and equipment within a determined budget;
Observe cheerleaders during events and practices to determine the needs for individual or squad improvement;
Enforce expectations of the squad, including those regarding tardiness, missed practices and/or games, un-sportspersonship or exemplary student-athlete conduct when wearing uniforms/representing South Spencer High School.
Organize meetings for future squad prospects and encourage student participation.
Hold tryouts or conduct auditions to select members of the cheerleading squad.
Attend cheerleading camp with the team each summer and/ or provide summer enrichment for cheer squad members.
Encourage participation in pep rallies to build school morale and school spirit.
Seek approval for and supervise all fundraising to supplement funds for travel, camps, uniforms, and supplies.
Responsible for the general upkeep, inventory and protection of equipment and facilities under the jurisdiction of the program.
Maintain ongoing communication with Athletic Director/Designee regarding any developments in the program.
Assist with the oversight related to safety conditions of the facility or area in which the assigned sport is conducted.
Report any unsafe conditions to the Athletic Director/Designee in a timely manner to correct safety hazards.
Facilitate the long-term success and viability of the program by establishing positive relationships with local athletics organizations, K-12 sports programs, local media agencies, booster groups, foundations, and community members.
Demonstrate knowledge of and adherence to the policies, procedures, rules, and regulations of the District, the league in which the District participates, and IHSAA.
Comply with time restraints for practice and competition schedules, including holidays, weekends, and off-season schedules.
Be willing to make a commitment to the sport on a regular consistent basis.
Ensures that their squad is in good financial standing with their fees, actively communicating with athletes and parents to help them meet their obligations.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director and/or Varsity Cheerleading Sponsor.

WORK DAYS: High School Cheerleading seasons are defined by ISHAA.
STANDARD HOURS PER DAY: Varies and are outside of contracted hours/school day.
WORK YEAR: High School Cheerleading seasons are defined by ISHAA.
SALARY SCHEDULE & BENEFITS: The High School Cheerleader Sponsor is paid on the “Extra Duties” salary schedule, paid via stipend during the season. The Teacher/Non-Certified employee assigned to fulfill the duties of Sponsor is eligible for benefits on the “Teachers/Non-Certified employee” benefits schedule due to his/her employment as a teacher or aide, not due to being responsible for these extracurricular duties.
The High School Cheerleader Sponsor that is not a Teacher or Non-Certified employee, but is a Lay Coach, defined as non-certified employee used only in the Athletic Program, is paid during season via stipend and not eligible for benefits.
REPORTS TO: The Athletic Director and/or the AD’s Designee and Head Varsity Cheerleading Sponsor.
SUPERVISES: The High School Cheerleader Sponsor does not supervise other staff members.
GENERAL SUMMARY: The High School Cheerleader Sponsor promotes an appreciation for teamwork, sportsmanship and excellence. The High School Cheerleader Sponsor sets an exemplary example and provides leadership and supervision for the team and individuals.
The Cheerleading Sponsor is responsible for choreography and teaching cheer routines to the cheerleading squad. Be knowledgeable and skilled in tumbling and stunting to ensure the safety of all program participants. Have the ability to work with teenagers to lead them to success. Be a professional, organized and dedicated Sponsor. The Sponsor is responsible for setting and conducting practice times after academic classes and supervising the team at school football and basketball games and any other activities to promote school spirit.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

ENTRY-LEVEL REQUIREMENTS:
1. EDUCATION/TRAINING: Ideal candidates will have experience coaching and/or performing within a high-performing Cheer program or organization.
2. EXPERIENCE: Any teacher/non-cert employed by the District is welcome to express interest in this extracurricular assignment. It is preferred that all candidates have experience as a coach/player/participant of the assignment. *Must be at least 21 years of age.
3. CERTIFICATIONS &/OR LICENSES: Must be up to date with all certifications required for their sport as required by their District and the State of Indiana. Must have a valid Indiana Driver’s License and proof of insurance.
4. OTHER: The successful candidate shall recognize that the purpose of athletics is to promote the physical, mental, moral, and emotional well-being of the individual athlete. Possess the ability to perform the essential functions and to fulfill the physical/sensory/ environmental requirements of the job (with or without reasonable accommodations) is required.
5. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The duties and responsibilities of the Coach involve a high degree of organization and physical activity.
The job typically involves some combination of walking, running, jumping, standing and sitting, and may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 50 pounds). Some chores of this job may require heavy lifting or other physical abilities often associated with manual labor.
6. SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: The ability to communicate verbally in person and via the telephone is very important. It is important for the Coach to have the knowledge to direct physical conditioning and training that is appropriate for the development of each student-athlete.
7. ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Tasks are regularly performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature, and noise extremes. Exposure to machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, disease, or pathogenic substances is not typical.
