SUMMARY

This Job Description provides a description of the duties for which the Quality Assurance Technician I will be accountable and responsible. The intent of this Job Description is to enable the Employee to be successful within the chain of command by promoting transparent, effective, efficient, and quality corporate operations. Other duties may be assigned to the Quality Assurance Technician I from time to time. These additional duties will be communicated directly from the Quality Supervisor/Manager. If these duties are considered to be of an essential and recurring nature and merit assigning responsibility, this Job description will be revised accordingly.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Support Quality Assurance and Quality Control activities and perform Quality Control functions as established in the Corporate Quality Control Manual and Quality Assurance Instructions, and as otherwise directed by the Quality Supervisor/Manager.

Perform inspection functions for shop as assigned by the Quality Supervisor/Manager, to ensure manufacturing adheres to design specifications, drawings and work instructions issued by production control to the shop.

Perform in-process and final signoffs of work travelers and cut sheets utilized by the shop to track the performance of work and intermediate inspections. Manage, track, and complete work control documents as established by the Quality Supervisor/Manager.

Perform inspection functions for purchased parts, systems, and assemblies to ensure that vendors’ work adheres to design specifications, drawings, quality assurance instructions and plans, and work instructions issued with the purchase order.

Perform inspection of mechanical and machined parts. Includes physical measurement and visual inspection of parts, and review of vendor Material Test Reports (MTRs) and Certificate(s) of Conformance. Ensure that all documentation is obtained, reviewed, and determined compliant, and properly archived.

Initiate, process, and maintain records of rework and Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs). This includes but is not limited to inspections to ensure compliance to the following activities: a) vendor manufacturing and supply b) refurbishment, repair, and installation by a VLI field team c) shop activities including cutting, fitting, welding, sandblasting, painting, storing, identifying parts, packaging and crating, and adherence to procedures and processes implemented under the Quality Management System.

Perform or oversee required nondestructive examination work performed by qualified technicians when necessary

Assist Customer Representatives and auditors in the conduct of shop visits.

Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.

Ensure activities are conducted in accordance with Vital Link International Standards Organization (ISO9000) policies and correct and report any deviations to appropriate area manager/supervisor.

Be familiar with and understand Vital Link Quality Policy and company objectives.

Understand required ISO9000 specific Procedures and Work Instructions.

Complete all records required by Procedures and Work Instructions.

Participate in Vital Link Continuous Improvement activities as appropriate.

Participate in ISO9000 training as required.

Cooperate with Auditors.

Report any deviations to appropriate area manager/supervisor.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED); 1+ years’ inspection experience and/or 2+ years of experience in a metal fabrication related field is preferred.

College or technical school training is preferred.

A basic knowledge of Engineering drawings is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Regularly standing, stooping, crouching, and bending.

Ability to use hands for handling objects, climbing, bending, reaching, and walking.


Must have good sight, hearing, and touch for effective communication.

Capable of lifting moderate to heavy steel parts, equipment, and supplies on a routine basis.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Primarily outdoors and in an open shop, exposed to various weather conditions.

Hazards: Heavy dust and fumes; requires use of safety glasses and protective clothing.

Workdays typically 8-10 hours, 4-5 days per week, with occasional weekends and extended hours as business needs require.

Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Extended work hours and/or travel may occasionally be required.
