Position Duties
Pay Grade: SE
The Governmental Affairs Deputy Director will support the Governmental Affairs Director in monitoring legislative developments, planning and executing DHS's board and commission meetings, and managing day-to-day projects for the team, among other duties.
Role and Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Governmental Affairs Director, the Deputy Director will:
- Monitor legislation, legislative committee hearings, and policy developments at the state level of government, while providing updates to the Governmental Affairs Director.
- Represent DHS at legislative committee hearings, as directed, to provide information and answer questions on relevant issues.
- Support the Governmental Affairs Director in developing and maintaining working relationships with legislative offices and key governmental stakeholders.
- Act as a liaison to the DHS-related state boards and commissions, and assist in the planning and execution of meetings, including agenda development, presentation preparation, and minute-taking.
- Conduct in-depth research on proposed legislation and policies, assessing their potential impact on DHS programs and services.
- Produce research analysis and create background materials, as directed, to support the Governmental Affairs Director.
- Perform related responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in political science, public administration, or a related field from an approved, accredited college or university AND two (2) years of related professional experience.
Preferred Skills/Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, demonstrate some or all the following education/skills/experience:
- Recent, relevant experience with legislative session and public policy in Georgia.
- Knowledge of Georgia's human services landscape.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with a broad range of stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to intrepret legislation.
- Detail-oriented and capable of managing multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Proven ability to work effectively within a cross-departmental team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in customer service.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite and experience with legislative tracking software.
- Ability to serve as a liaison.
