Oversees the design and operation of the medication use system within the Yale-New Haven Health System, affiliated clinics, and retail pharmacies. Additional responsibilities include administrative, financial, strategic planning, clinical, human resources, drug policy, medication safety, academic, research and quality improvement activities for both inpatient and ambulatory pharmacy services. Provides a strategic plan and vision for the clinical initiatives as well as the financial direction of the pharmacy function.

- 1. Financial Management
- 1.1 Independently prepares and projects pharmacy operating budget and proposes to senior leadership (personnel, drugs, supplies, revenues, projected capital expenses, ect.)
- 2. Pharmacy Operations
- 2.1 Ensures department compliance with pharmacy practice laws and guidelines developed by the board of pharmacy, DEA, FDA, joint commission, and ASHP.
- 3. Human Resources
- 3.1 Provides leadership to the following pharmacy staff: (indicate number of FTEs and type -professional, research, technical, billing, clerical, interns, residents, students, reimbursement, inventory/business, mgr/buyer, informatics, other/list).
- 4. Medication Safety
- 4.1 Provides vision and oversees the implementation of medication safety related initiatives within the hospital/health-system.
- 5. Drug-Use Policy
- 5.1 Serves as a leader of the hospital/health-system P&T Committee and develops strong physician relationships.
- 6. Quality Improvement
- 6.1 Provides or supervises interdisciplinary leadership for the Joint Commission Survey and leads a readiness committee or team to assure hospital/health-system compliance with policies.
- 7. Informatics/Technology
- 7.1 Provides technology assessment leadership within the hospital/health-system (indicate committee involvement).
- 8. Ambulatory (Outpatient) Pharmacy Services
- 8.1 Coordinates pharmacy involvement in the following specialty services: (anticoagulation, medication management, home infusion, other/list).
- 9. Education/Academic Affiliation
- 9.1 Participate in the leadership, policy development, and strategic planning for (list school of pharmacy/medicine affiliations).
- 10. Research
- 10.1 Directs the safe use and dispensing of investigational medications through (number) pharmacist FTEs and (number) of technician/other FTEs dedicated to reviewing research protocols, professional service and the distribution and preparation of investigational medications.
EDUCATION
Graduation from an accredited school of pharmacy accredited by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education and Advanced degree in Pharmacy (MS or Postgraduate PHarm D.) MHA or MBA preferred.
EXPERIENCE
Ten (10) years Pharmacy leadership experience including at least five (5) years in director of pharmacy or equivalent position in an Academic Health Center department of Pharmacy. Completion of ASHP accredited or equivalent residency program strongly preferred.
LICENSURE
Eligible for CT Pharmacist Licensure.
SPECIAL SKILLS
Excellent administrative, professional and fiscal management skills. Understands pharmacy practice standards and regulatory requirements. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential. Excellent analytical skills. Knowledge of Human Factors in complex systems. Experience with Failure Mode and Effects in Analysis and Statistical Process Control.
