Job Title: Library Student Assistant
Classification: Student
Reports To: Circulation Supervisor
Job Summary/Objective: The Library Assistant serves as the front-line of the Circulation Department. They would assist, students, faculty and staff, and other patrons with all library needs.

Position Type/Expected Work Hours: Part-time, hours vary. Generally 8-10 hours per week depending on student availability.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Essential Responsibilities: This is a customer service heavy position. Daily activities include checking items in and out, assisting patrons with basic questions, routing advanced questions to the librarian, desk cleaning, and locating items on the shelf, shelving returned items, and special projects as assigned. Library Assistants are also responsible for maintaining patron privacy as well as uphold all library policies and procedures.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Must have basic typing/computing skills as well as excellent customer service.
- Must be able to effectively communicate with coworkers and library patrons.
- Must be able to professionally handle dispute resolution and infraction reporting.
- Must be able to learn the Library of Congress classification system and WMS system.
- Must have an attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous library or customer service experience preferred.
Work Environment: This is an office environment with prolonged periods of sitting. Daily bending, squatting, and lifting are also called for.
Physical Demands: Lifting up to 20 lbs and pushing carts of books weighing approximately 100 lbs
