Job Description: This position is responsible for collecting manual and electronic timecards, processing and preparing a weekly payroll. Will work closely with human resources in preparation of various union related tables and payroll functions. This position prepares reports and supports staff in prevailing wage reporting requirements. This role is a key function in maintaining good relations with employees and outside customers.
Major Job Responsibilities:
- Review, post and check accuracy of timecards and work with supervisors on discrepancies in data collected from multiple sources
- Apply thorough knowledge of automated payroll system and system tables in uploading, processing and preparing payroll for employees
- Verify work hours, pay rates and prevailing wage requirements
- Calculate wages based on hours worked, salary and issue paychecks
- Prepare manual payroll checks as required in case of payroll errors or terminations
- Update and process union dues, fringes and reports—backup
- Coordinate closely with Human Resources
- Responsible for operation of the JD Edwards computer system payroll module and coordination of related functions with Knife River Corporate payroll shared services staff
- Prepare reports that include summaries of earnings, leave accruals, tax deductions
- Resolve payroll discrepancies and employee inquiries regarding paychecks and timekeeping issues in a timely manner.
- Responsible for accurate distribution of all manual payroll checks
- Perform Sarbanes Oxley payroll related responsibilities
- Maintain all payroll operations according to company policies and procedures
- Perform other tasks and special projects as assigned
Minimum Requirements
- High school Diploma or GED equivalent
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and other Microsoft Office software programs
Experience, Knowledge, Abilities, Skills:
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience preparing large, weekly payrolls in the construction industry is desirable
- Ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy, attention to detail, efficiency, and reliability
- Experience with a multi-union payroll in the construction industry is preferred
- Must have the ability to meet deadlines and prioritize work
- Must be flexible in the number of hours worked
- Strong computer skills, 10 Key, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook needed
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills required
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle information of a confidential nature
- Display a professional and courteous attitude towards all team members and customers
This position is in office and full-time.
