Internal Redeployment Only - Development Officer (Leadership Giving)

Cardiff University’s Development and Alumni Relations team are recruiting for a fixed-term, full-time Development Officer (Leadership Giving) to join their Fundraising Team.

Working as part of an experienced Fundraising Team, the post holder will raise philanthropic funds for key projects – currently, medical research (including cancer research, neuroscience and mental health research and systems immunity); and scholarships and bursaries. This role focuses on securing philanthropic gifts at leadership level, normally between £1,000-£25,000. This will involve asking for donations, largely from alumni, via bespoke and personalised means.

The successful candidate will have experience working in an external-facing and results-driven environment. They will be able to evidence their ability to establish and develop quality relationships with alumni, donors and colleagues, and will possess strong communication and negotiation skills.  Specific fundraising experience is not required: bespoke training will be provided in a highly collaborative environment.

This position, resulting from the promotion of the substantive postholder to a maternity cover role, offers an ideal opportunity for a short term or secondment candidate to develop and/or strengthen face-to-face fundraising experience as part of a successful, supportive team.

The Development and Alumni Relations Department currently works on campus every Wednesday and otherwise practices blended working. This fundraising role requires regular travel to London and periodic travel elsewhere in the UK; it can also involve planned evening and/or weekend work.

For an informal conversation prior to applying for this role, please contact Caroline Semmens, Deputy Director of Development and Head of Fundraising ([email protected]).

Please submit both a cover letter/statement and CV in your application, including the names of at least two referees.

This is a full-time (35 hours per week), fixed term until 31 May 2026.

Salary: £33,482 - £36,130 per annum (Grade 5). Appointments will usually be at the first spine point of the grade for staff moving from a lower grade role.

Closing date: Friday, 15 August 2025
