Classification: PARAEDUCATOR / TECHNICIAN Salary Range: 65

Job Summary:
Under direction, assists a certificated teacher in the performance of instructional, tutorial assistance and clerical functions in the following instructional room or laboratory specializations: 1) Library, 2) computers, 3) dance, 4) music, 5) fine arts, and/or 6) physical education.
Essential Job Functions:
- Administers tests for the purposes of providing feedback and evaluating student progress.
- Assists students in development of skills (i.e. computer skills, writing programs, keyboarding, use of library resources, etc.) for the purpose of supporting them in the implementation of classroom goals and individual student plans.
- Assists teachers, students and other personnel for the purpose of identifying resource materials for use in classroom and/or class assignments.
- Assures the preparation, duplication and maintenance of instructional materials and supplies for the purpose of ensuring availability of resource materials for use in instruction.
- Conducts various programs (i.e. prep periods, staff in-service, reading programs, etc.) for the purpose of providing up-dates for teachers on new equipment and software, proper utilization of resources and support in the implementation of classroom goals.
- Creates lessons plans for the purpose of supporting teacher and site administrator in their performance of their job functions.
- Coordinates classroom reading for the purpose of implementing appropriate programs and ensuring full utilization of library resources.
- Orients students on the proper use of the library or computer lab resources (i.e. classification system, card catalog, care of materials, computer hardware, etc.) for the purpose of educating others and providing for proper utilization of library resources.
- Maintains various records (i.e. site technology plan, inventory of equipment and materials, etc.) for the purpose of providing documentation and ensuring the implementation of program goals.
- Monitors various assigned activities (i.e. classroom and playground activities, computer units, audio visual equipment and resource center, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
- Monitors and tutors students referred to assigned area by classroom teachers for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
Other Job Functions:
- Assists District Technology Team for the purpose of loading and downloading software on network.
- Participates in various meetings for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information.
Essential Job Requirements - Qualifications:
- Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required: Skill to perform basic clerical functions, perform basic arithmetic calculations, operate standard office equipment, use English in verbal and written form, use correct grammar, punctuation and spelling. Knowledge of principles of child development, instructional processes. Knowledge of computer hardware and software. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, maintain confidentiality of student records, meeting schedules and deadlines, read/interpret/apply rules, regulations, policies, rapidly learn methods and materials used in a variety of instructional situations Significant physical abilities include reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity.
- Physical Requirements: The Office of Classified Personnel Services embraces the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The requirements of the position are maintained in the Personnel Department; and, individuals shall be able to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Education and Training Required: The educational and training requirement will be determined based on the area of specialization as stated above in the job summary portion of the job description. Candidate must notate the area of speciality for which s/he is applying on application at the time of submission. High School graduate or equivalent and one (1) year experience working with youth in an organized setting in one (1) or more area(s) of specialization listed in the job summary of the job description. Completion of two (2) years of higher education study OR possession of an Associate’s or higher level degree, OR pass assessment that demonstrates knowledge of and the ability to assist in teaching reading, writing, and mathematics OR reading, writing, and mathematics readiness.
NOTE: Incumbents hired prior to January 8, 2002 will have until January 8, 2006 to comply with the college or assessment requirements.

- Physical Abilities – Hear and speak clearly and distinctly to provide assistance and information related to classroom assignments; see to monitor student conduct during learning activities; manipulate hands and fingers to operate audio-visual, duplicating and educational training equipment; bend at the waist, stoop and kneel to assist students; and stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:
- Successful completion of the State-mandated proficiency examination.
- Fingerprint/criminal justice clearance.
- Tuberculosis clearance.
- Current First Aide and CPR Certificates
- Headstart/CDC: Must possess or have the ability to obtain the State Mandated Educational Requirements.
