Just for Kids is a community-centered non-profit organization that offers Before and After School and Summer Programming in the Amherst, Cheektowaga Central, Cheektowaga Sloan, Cleveland Hill (Cheektowaga), Grand Island, Sweet Home, and Williamsville Central School Districts. We also offer programming at The Park School of Buffalo, Saints Peter and Paul School in Hamburg, St. Benedict School in Amherst, St. Mary's School in Swormville, and Nardin Academy in Buffalo.


Position Summary

Just for Kids is seeking an Intervention Specialist for our Cleveland Hill Elementary After School Program. The ideal candidate has experience delivering targeted academic interventions backed by evidence-based practices. The focus will be on supporting students in grades 2-5 who require additional assistance in core areas such as literacy and reading skills, and executive functioning.

This role requires collaboration with program staff, school teams, and families to plan, deliver, and monitor progress in small-group settings using established intervention frameworks.


Responsibilities Include:


Program Implementation

  • Deliver targeted academic interventions using research-based methods.
  • Customize instructional strategies based on student needs using tools such as curriculum-based measurement, progress monitoring, and assessment data.
  • Support executive functioning and engagement for students who may struggle in traditional classroom settings.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and program staff to ensure alignment with school-day instruction.
  • Adapt instruction as needed to accommodate different learning styles and developmental levels.

Data Collection & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate documentation of intervention goals, progress, attendance, and outcomes.
  • Use assessment tools to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and adjust plans as needed.
  • Communicate progress with families and school personnel in a respectful, confidential, and constructive manner, and in alignment with grant requirements.

Additional Duties

  • Uphold confidentiality of all student and program-related information.
  • Support general program activities and supervision when not engaged in intervention services.
  • Follow established protocols for student safety, health, and well-being.
  • Participate in team meetings and staff training as required.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Manager or Just for Kids administration.

Schedule

After school programs follow the District/School calendar, Monday through Friday, from dismissal through the close of program (5:30pm). 

*Four days of onsite Intervention and 3 hours of planning offsite.

*The Intervention Specialist may work providing Intervention 1.5-2 hours daily. If additional work time is desired, additional hours are available through 5:30pm daily.

Requirements

Experience And Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field.
  • Experience teaching reading in a small-group or intervention setting.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and collaboration skills.

Physical Requirements: This position is active and requires walking, bending, kneeling, twisting and squatting. This position includes prolonged periods of standing and frequent bending. Generally, must be able to lift up to 10 pounds at a time.

Requirements

 Experience And Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Reading, or related field.
  • Experience teaching reading in a small-group or intervention setting.
  • Familiarity with or training in the Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI) systems.
  • Preferred Master’s degree in Literacy or Reading; Reading Specialist certification.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and collaboration skills.
