Syska Hennessy Group is the leading global, full-service MEP, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Commissioning engineer for the government and commercial sectors. With more than 650 professionals across 21 offices, we provide a full range of engineering services for projects of every size and budget.

We are seeking a strategic and hands-on FP&A Leader to drive the financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis functions for a dynamic and growing MEP engineering firm. This is a high-impact, high-visibility role providing comprehensive exposure to all financial aspects of the business. This role will also oversee the Project Accounting team of 14 professionals, including three supervisors, four accounts receivable associates, and seven project accountants, ensuring accurate project financials, billing, and compliance across a global footprint.  This position plays a key role in M&A activities, including financial due diligence, integration planning, and post-acquisition performance tracking.  This role will be instrumental in driving financial performance, operational efficiency, and strategic growth across a multi-office, project-based organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A):

  • Leads the annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes across all business units and geographies.
  • Develops and maintains dynamic financial models to support strategic decision-making.
  • Analyzes financial performance, identify trends, and provide actionable insights to executive leadership.
  • Leverages Workday Finance and Adaptive Planning capabilities for financial planning, reporting, and analysis
  • Partners with the CEO, the CFO and department heads and office leaders to align financial goals with operational strategies.
  • Prepares monthly and quarterly financial reporting packages for senior leadership and board-level review.
  • Responsible for monthly & quarterly reporting to Operations/Board and ad hoc/miscellaneous reporting responsible for top-down three statement model (run sensitivity and what-if analyses)
  • Contribute to ongoing improvements to the financial planning and reporting processes, streamlining workflows, and upgrading financial models to support evolving business needs
  • Accountable for input on establishing and adhering to processes and controls to improve and ensure data integrity and consistency
  • Responsible for annual operating plan and developing monthly process for reporting results of forecast
  • Participate in the monthly financial close process; ensure integrity of financial information
  • Responsible for developing more effective, forward-looking reports and analyses of KPIs currently measured throughout the Company

Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A):

  • Supports the CFO and executive team in evaluating potential acquisition targets.
  • Develops and maintains financial models to support scenario planning, backlog analysis, and capital allocation.
  • Conducts financial due diligence efforts, including quality of earnings, working capital analysis, and risk assessment.
  • Develops integration plans and coordinates with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth post-acquisition transitions.
  • Monitors and reports on the financial performance of acquired entities and synergies realization.

Project Accounting Oversight:

  • Oversees project accounting and job cost tracking across engineering disciplines and geographies.
  • Manages a team of 14 project accounting professionals, including billing and project financial support.
  • Ensures timely and accurate project setup, billing, revenue recognition, and cost tracking.
  • Implements and maintains internal controls and best practices for project financial management.
  • Collaborates with project managers to monitor project profitability and resolve financial issues.
  • Drives continuous improvement in financial systems, reporting tools, and business intelligence capabilities.

Leadership & Collaboration:

  • Serve as a key finance business partner to the CFO, operations, HR, and executive leadership.
  • Mentors and develop team members, fostering a culture of accountability and excellence.
  • Leads cross-functional initiatives to improve business processes, financial systems, reporting, and operational efficiency.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field
  • 10 to 15+ years of progressive finance experience, with at least 5+ FP&A and project accounting leadership.
  • CPA, CMA or FPAC preferred
  • Proven experience in a professional services or AEC (Architecture, Engineering, Construction) environment, ideally within MEP engineering preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage complex financial operations, and drive strategic initiatives.
  • Strong systems experience.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and leadership skills.
  • Participate in the monthly financial close process; ensure integrity of financial information
  • Ability and willingness to travel
  • Hybrid schedule: in-office four days per week and work from home one day per week
