Job Summary

 

Provides first level technical support to all City Departments. Maintains and performs preventative maintenance on City computer equipment and peripherals. Provides administrative support in daily office operations of the department. This work requires the candidate to be able to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization, use discretion and due diligence within a moderately stressful environment. The applicant must be able to follow any local, state and federal policies that are in place within the Information Technology Department. Other duties as assigned by other senior Information Technology staff.  

 


Essential Job Functions

 

  1. Provides first level technical support for hardware and software problems.
  2. Installs computer hardware and software as required.
  3. Deploys new PC’s and laptops.
  4. Available for on-call duties per rotating schedule and for City Council and other City    Events as needed.
  5. Performs preventative maintenance for all PC’s and printers as required.
  6. Facilitates retirement of obsolete IT equipment.
  7. Maintains inventory of computer hardware and software.
  8. Provides support for audio-visual presentation equipment.
  9. Provides application support as needed to ensure the continuance of City Operations. 
  10. Adheres to Hurst’s Code of Ideals and The Hurst Way. Fosters positive employee relations and employee morale on a City-wide basis.
  11. Performs related duties as directed when such duties are logical and appropriate.
  12. Regular and timely attendance are required for this position.
  13. Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers and others in the course of daily work.


Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

 

  • Ability to work as a positive team member and in accordance with the City’s Code of Ideals.
  • Skills in multiple software applications, including MS Office, Exchange, Anti-virus and hardware, etc.
  • Skills in troubleshooting and repairing PC equipment malfunctions. 
  • Ability to work with and communicate with external partners.
  • Ability to understand basic networking concepts.
  • Ability to recognize and solve problems quickly, often under stressful conditions.  
  • Ability to coordinate multiple assignments and tasks to meet strict deadlines.  
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions to complete assignments.  
  • Ability to read and understand technical material and information.  
  • Ability to prioritize and dispatch work orders and follow up to check resolution in a timely manner.  
  • Ability to assist users with problems by perceptive questioning, using diagnostic software, or listening to procedures followed by users to determine the source of a problem.
  • Ability to perform duties associated with the setup, configuration, installation, and maintenance of software products, peripherals, printers, scanners, PC’s and other computer equipment.
  • Ability to contribute as a team member with other Information Technology staff to provide technical solutions for City employees and external stakeholders.
  • Possess excellent customer service skills and can excel at applying the City of Hurst’s Code of Ideals in all interpersonal relations with city staff and the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers. 
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time to operate standard office equipment, including computer keyboard, telephone, calculator, copier, fax machine, and printer.
  • May routinely lift objects as part of regular duties. Lifting does not normally require anything over shoulder height.  Maximum weight limit is 50 lbs.

 


Minimum Education, Certification, and Experience Requirements

 

  • Associates degree, vocational school degree (in applicable field) or equivalent OR a minimum of two years’ in a technical software and hardware support position; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • CompTIA A+ or other relevant certifications preferred.
  • Due to the support nature of this position the candidate must never have been convicted, put on court-ordered community supervision or probation for any offence above the grade of Class B misdemeanor within the last Ten (10) years from the date of the court order. Class A misdemeanor conviction, deferred adjudication or felony convictions are permanent disqualifiers. 
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain TCIC/NCIC access as required by CJIS regulations.
  • Must be willing to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement with the City. 
  • Candidate must have a valid Texas driver's license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy and access to a personal vehicle for reliable transportation to and from work-related locations. Mileage reimbursement will be provided for work-related travel.
  • Must have regular and punctual attendance, reliable transportation, flexibility to work overtime and respond to emergency situations during non-scheduled work hours.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and physical essential job function screening. 
  • Must pass a criminal background check and credit check.

While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to perform light to medium work that may require this person to sit, stand, walk, lift and carry objects of varying sizes and weights, bending, pushing and pulling, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear, stand, walk, and stoop, or crouch.  This position requires occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.  This job requires the ability to work in an office environment where the noise level is usually moderate. Subject to varying levels of stress in accordance with interaction with peers and others in office environment. The job requires the use of a personal vehicle as you will be required to visit off site locations for service calls. 

 While performing the essential functions of this position the employee is rarely exposed to disagreeable environmental factors.
