JOB GOAL(S):
Windsor Public Schools is seeking a part time (20 hours/week) dependable, proactive, and mission-driven Mobile Classroom Bus Driver to operate our innovative Mobile Learning Classroom. This role goes beyond driving – it requires a hands-on individual with strong organizational and technical skills to ensure the mobile unit operates safely, efficiently, and with purpose.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Driving & Safety:
Safely operate the Mobile Classroom bus on designated routes across Windsor neighborhoods.
Adhere to all state and local traffic regulations, safety procedures, and district transportation policies.
Perform pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections and report any mechanical issues promptly.
Technical & Operational Support:
Operate and monitor the onboard generator to ensure continuous power supply for classroom operations.
Refuels the bus after completing runs and reports any mechanical problems to the supervisor.
Ability to lift up to 100 pounds.
Maintain the interior of the bus daily, including cleaning, organizing materials, and restocking supplies as needed.
Ensure all technology devices (laptops, tablets, projectors, Wi-Fi units) are secured and fully charged at the end of each session.
Emergency Preparedness:
Follow established emergency protocols in case of mechanical failure, health emergency, or weather-related disruption.
Communicate promptly and effectively with the central office in the event of any incident.
Professionalism & Initiative:
Represent Windsor Public Schools with professionalism in all community interactions.
Take initiative in ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students and staff.
Qualifications:
Valid CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) with school bus endorsement required
Five years’ driving experience, with acceptable record.
Clean driving record and background check
Experience operating generators or other technical systems (training can be provided)
Ability to perform routine cleaning and maintenance tasks
Comfortable working in a school setting and supporting educators and children
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to follow detailed procedures and take initiative when needed
Working Conditions:
Flexible schedule including afternoon and early evening shifts
Physical activity required (lifting up to 100 lbs, standing, bending)
Indoor/outdoor work environment (bus is climate-controlled)
