
Job Title: Assistant Teacher Choral - Middle School
Reports to: Teacher or Principal
Receives Guidance From: Teacher, Principal
Job Purpose: To provide assistance in the instruction of basic skills and to assure each student the opportunity to take advantage of all available resources in the classroom.
Duties and Responsibilities: - Assist the Choir Director in planning and organizing choir rehearsals, including selecting and preparing musical repertoire.
- Help in conducting choir rehearsals, providing guidance on vocal technique, interpretation, and musical expression.
- Collaborate with the Choir Director to coordinate choir performances, including scheduling, venue arrangements, and logistics.
- Assist in coordinating rehearsals with accompanists, musicians, and other supporting personnel.
- Assist in providing musical instruction and vocal coaching to choir members.
- Help in teaching and reinforcing proper vocal techniques, musicianship skills, and choral blend.
- Support individual choir members in their musical growth and development.
- Assist with sectionals and individual vocal rehearsals as needed.
- Assist in maintaining choir-related administrative tasks, such as attendance tracking, member communication, and record keeping.
- Collaborate with the Choir Director in organizing and distributing music scores, rehearsal materials, and performance resources.
- Help in managing choir databases and maintaining accurate contact information for choir members.
- Assist in coordinating and organizing choir performances, concerts, competitions, and other choral events.
- Collaborate with the Choir Director in selecting repertoire and planning program sequences.
- Assist in coordinating logistics for performances, such as stage setup, audio equipment, and rehearsal scheduling.
- Support in coordinating auditions and recruitment efforts to maintain and expand the choir membership.
- Collaborate closely with the Choir Director to ensure effective communication and coordination with choir members, parents/guardians, and other stakeholders.
- Assist in facilitating regular communication channels, such as newsletters, emails, and social media platforms.
- Support the Choir Director in maintaining positive relationships with external organizations, venues, and community partners.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Regular, timely/dependable, in person attendance is an essential function of this position.
- Perform such other and not specifically enumerated duties as may be requested by the Board of Education, superintendent, administrator, director or established by district policy, state, or federal guidelines.
- Read, understand, and abide by the Professional Educator Code of Conduct Policy, all other district policies and applicable procedures and protocols as established by LCS.
Extra attention given to candidates with
- Strong piano skills (including accompaniment preferred)
- Bachelor’s in music education or Experience in the music field
Qualifications: Education level: Associates degree or higher from an accredited college. Minimum of 48 hours of college credit from an accredited college or pass a Work Keys test as determined by the Mississippi Department of Education.
