Sacred Circle Healthcare is seeking a full-time Infection Prevention and Control Coordinator for our Salt Lake City, Utah.


General Summary of Duties: The coordinator will ensure that communicable diseases response events and activities are executed in an organized and uniform manner ensuring high quality services in accordance with technical best practices and CDC/WHO approaches. The coordinator will also ensure that the Infection Prevention and Control Program at Sacred Circle Healthcare is being implemented and followed at each clinic site as directed by the Medical Support Staff Director per approved Policies and Procedures set forth by Sacred Circle Healthcare.

Salt Lake Main Clinic but must be able to travel to all clinics including Wendover and Ibapah regularly and as needed for any outbreak coordination.

Major Responsibilities/Tasks: 

  • Oversees vaccination and Infection Prevention and Control testing-related staffing needs and resources.
  • Applies the medical process to oversee care of patients receiving vaccinations including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Responsible for oversight and the day-to-day functioning of Infection Prevention and Control testing and/or vaccination clinics, including but not limited to staffing, patient flow, safety operations, registration, inventory, and communications.
  • Assesses unmet needs throughout all Sacred Circle Healthcare Clinics with a special focus on Infection Prevention and Control response and make recommendations for how Sacred Circle can better address identified unmet needs.
  • Functions as the primary VFC Coordinator for Sacred Circle Healthcare – will oversee each site MA Manager, Senior MA and MA Trainer in relation to the administration of the VFC program. 
  • May administer vaccines - draws up vaccine according to manufacturer’s instructions; administers them using safe and proper techniques and a system of double checks to ensure accuracy. 
  • Prepares and maintains required vaccination/testing documentation records; prepare and maintain required testing documentation records; Oversee and input data entry for all vaccination/testing records. 
  • Responsible for event planning and organization methods and practices; Ensures staffing levels are adequate for both large and small vaccination/testing events, including drive through vaccination/testing venues. 
  • Establishes a pool of vaccination/testing staff who are fully trained and available to attend events on short notice. Works with Medical Support Staff Director to reassign vaccination/testing staff to quickly respond to ensure adequate coverage at all clinic sites. 
  • Identifies and assesses possible adverse reactions related to vaccine administration; provide proper medical intervention outlined by UDOH/CDC policy and protocol per vaccine clinics.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of Communicable Disease and Preparedness services; identify solutions and make suggestions for improvements to Medical Support Staff Director.
  • Provides scientifically accurate information about Infection Prevention and Control tests and vaccines to community members, agency partners, and clinic staff.
  • Assists with the development, implementation, and evaluation of Infection Prevention and Control policies and procedures.  
  • Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested. 
  • Establishes and maintains positive relationships with government regulators, residents, families, other area health care providers, physicians, and the community. 
  • Manages employee vaccination program through ensuring all new employees receive required testing and vaccinations. Track current employee vaccinations to ensure they are up to date.
  • Manages employee PPD testing. Track new and current employees to ensure they are up to date on needed testing.
  • Manages employee FIT testing. Track new and current employees to ensure they are up to date on needed testing.
  • Oversees and perform contact tracing for all communicable diseases. 
  • All duties above will also be performed for existing and new communicable diseases as recommended by the CDC. 
  • Performs related work as required and all other duties as necessary or assigned.  
  • Reads, understands, and adheres to all Sacred Circle Health Care Policies and Procedures.
  • Practices and adheres to the Code of Conduct and Mission and Values Statements.

Minimum Requirements:

EDUCATION: 

Graduation from a nationally recognized Nursing Program and licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Utah.

EXPERIENCE: 

  • 4+ years of experience in a healthcare setting.
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience in a healthcare setting.

Other:

Previous experience developing policies and procedures.

 

Preferred Requirements:

CERTIFICATION/

LICENSE:

Current BLS certification and willingness to obtain ACLS certification.

Other:

Experience working with the Native American community.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:  

  • Ability to effectively access and utilize Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail, spreadsheet, database software and other systems and equipment, and to learn new software as required.
  • Knowledge of Vaccine Safety Control requirements 
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. 
  • Strong clerical and record-keeping skills, including the ability to accurately compile, verify, and interpret statistical data.
  • Ability to effectively organize work, determine priorities, make independent decisions, and complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Strong and effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare and present reports in a clear, concise and competent manner.
  • Ability to effectively organize and structure programs. 
  • Collaborative approach to projects, events, and ideas.
  • Skill in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public. 
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. 
  • Ability to utilize motivation strategies to increase productivity and enhance teamwork for supervisees.
  • Ability to effectively access and utilize Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail, spreadsheet, database software and other systems and equipment, and to learn new software as it is required.
