About the Department

The Mechanical Engineering program at York College of Pennsylvania invites applications for a non-tenure-track Visiting Instructor of Mechanical Engineering position for the Spring 2026 semester (January-May 2026). The program houses approximately 200 undergraduates, six full-time faculty members, and five part-time and full-time staff members. Our program is characterized as hands-on with small class sizes and extensive student/faculty interactions. Students in the engineering department participate in design/build/test projects throughout the curriculum, culminating with a yearlong Capstone Design project that requires a functioning prototype. This includes several courses in our state-of-the-art Materials Science and Fluid Mechanics laboratories. A keystone of the York College mechanical engineering program is that our students participate in two semesters of engineering work in an industry setting as part of our co-operative learning program prior to graduation. This gives our students valuable experience that they can then apply in their classroom learning.

For this position, we seek candidates that are eager to teach first-year coursework related to computer-aided design (CAD), computer-aided machining (CAM), and basic fabrication. This coursework is foundational for our project-based curriculum and the successful candidate will be committed to supporting this foundation through the teaching of ME100. This course is the students’ first exposure to shop processes and proper shop communication via technical drawings. Candidates who have demonstrated familiarity with basic shop operations such as lathe and mill operation are preferred.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach 18 contact hours of courses in the Spring 2026 semester, which comprises a complete load and a small overload at additional compensation. This position is not renewable.
