Job Title: School Support Liaison (Elementary and Secondary: mixed level assignments)
Location: TBD
Reports To: Student and Community Services – Attendance Supervisor
Work Schedule/FLSA Status: 10 month / Exempt.
Salary Schedule: Omaha School Administrators Association (OSAA), Level 1 / Salary credit may be awarded for applicable experience. Placement on the salary schedule will follow the applicable summary document.
Position Purpose: The School Support Liaison will work with members of the Student and Community Services team to provide support to school administration and families, working collaboratively in the areas of student attendance, due process, school placement and family engagement. The School Support Liaison will support by providing guidance, leadership, training and resource assistance. This individual will exhibit strong standards of professional ethics when relating to staff, students, parents, administration, and the community.
Essential Performance Responsibilities
- Support the vision and mission of the Omaha Public Schools to establish high expectations for all students and staff.
- Support the mission of Student and Community Services as the liaison between the district office and school buildings.
- Assist the principal/program director in supporting attendance policy and process at the school level.
- Demonstrate proficiency in application of the Student Code of Conduct, alternative behavior resolutions, and the rights of students and families in the discipline process.
- Possess a strong working knowledge of the Student Assignment Plan; including school placement, transfer process and transportation eligibility.
- Understand and be able to apply the Guardianship Guidelines and parental restrictions.
- Ability to work across all grade levels – secondary and elementary including programs.
- Capacity to multi-task, analyze multiple forms of data, identify root-causes, and offer collaborative solutions to effectively address attendance and behavior changes.
- Prepare reports, document efforts and maintain records, as required.
- Develop and implement a positive, effective student management system to include monitoring and improving student attendance.
- Respond to and resolve parent/guardian concerns in a timely manner.
- Provide stakeholders with resources available in the Omaha Public Schools.
- Maintain accurate records as required by federal, state and local officials.
- Treat students, staff, community members, and families fairly, equitably and with dignity and respect.
- Collaborate with other central office staff on areas of concern and projects of District-wide importance.
- Collaborate with community resources to support the mission of Student and Community Services.
- Seeks ongoing growth opportunities.
- Maintain absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, records and Omaha Public Schools information.
- Other duties or tasks may be assigned on an as-needed basis.
- At times, may be required to work outside normal business hours and work extended hours to accomplish requirements of the position.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Master’s Degree required in educational administration, social work, counseling or other related field.
- Must possess or can obtain a valid Nebraska Administrator certification, preferred.
- Minimum of three years’ experience working directly with schools, families and/or community agencies.
- Minimum of three years of successful administrative experience in an urban school district.
- Extensive awareness of the school district.
- Knowledge of the diversity within the Omaha Public Schools and the Omaha Community.
- Demonstrate understanding of the Student Code of Conduct and due process related to student discipline.
- Knowledge of the Student Assignment Plan and transportation eligibility related to student placement.
- Demonstrate understanding of the District Attendance Policy and focus.
- Ability to provide informative and comprehensive written documentation.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both written and orally.
- Effective skills in technology.
- Ability to use sound judgment when dealing with confidential information.

Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Central Office Administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
Equipment: This position may require the ability to use basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine. Must always comply with OPS’s guidelines for equipment use.
Travel: Travel between schools and central offices will be required. Occasional travel outside of Omaha or Nebraska may be required.

- Must be able to respond rapidly in emergency situations.
- Must have organization, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Work in school building environments.
Interrelations:
- Contact with personnel within the district and other stakeholders.
- Will be working under the direct supervision of the building administration in order to complete day to day tasks.
- Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy.
- Must understand and respond appropriately to stakeholder needs and maintain a positive attitude with all.
- Expected to interact with all internal and external stakeholders in a friendly, professional manner and provide quick, responsive service.
Employee Punctuality and Appearance
- In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave.
- Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee’s supervisor or building administrator.
- All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of Omaha Public Schools and is appropriate for their position.
- Regular attendance is important.
Terms of Employment
This position is treated as a full-time exempt certified position. The terms of your employment will be governed by applicable state laws regulating employment or teaching in a Nebraska public school and Board of Education policies, as those laws and policies may change from time to time. If your position is represented by a collective bargaining representative, then your employment will also be governed by a negotiated agreement between OPS and that collective bargaining representative.
Terms of employment are contingent upon:
- Verification of a valid Nebraska Teaching License or other required license.
- A background check which demonstrates background is acceptable for the position sought and working with or around students.
- Verification of U.S. Citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States.
- Successful completion of a tuberculosis skin test (if required by federal law for your position).
- Execution and delivery to OPS of an Administrator Contract presented by OPS.
