Position Summary
The Failure Analysis Technician is a hands-on technical role responsible for investigating product failures across Holley’s diverse portfolio, including EFI systems, ignition components, exhaust products, and other performance upgrades. This position plays a critical role in driving product improvements by identifying root causes of failures and collaborating with engineering, quality, and customer support teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive failure analysis on returned or tested products, including disassembly, inspection, and documentation.
- Coordinate the Holley Claims process for initial investigation, Data collection and resolution.
- Use appropriate tools (e.g., digital calipers, microscopes, oscilloscopes, multimeters, borescopes) to diagnose issues in electronic, mechanical, and fuel system components.
- Conduct functional tests and simulations to replicate field failures under controlled conditions.
- Work closely with engineering teams to provide actionable insights that support continuous product improvement and reliability.
- Collaborate with warranty and customer support teams to review claims and improve customer satisfaction.
- Prepare technical reports that clearly communicate findings, including high-quality photos, data logs, and conclusions.
- Utilize and contribute to Holley’s failure database to track trends, support corrective actions, and improve product lifecycle performance.
- Support 8D, 5 Whys, and Fishbone (Ishikawa) root cause analysis efforts as part of the quality management system.
- Assist in testing and validation of new designs or revisions, especially in response to identified field failures.
- Promote a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement within the organization.
Qualifications
Required:
- Associate’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Automotive Technology; or equivalent work experience.
- 3+ years in failure analysis, quality assurance, technical service, or related field within the automotive or performance aftermarket.
- Knowledge of internal combustion engine systems, including EFI, ignition, exhaust, and fuel delivery.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with hands-on mechanical and electrical aptitude.
- Ability to read technical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and service manuals.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical reporting and interdepartmental communication.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with ERP and PLM systems a plus.
Preferred:
- Experience with Holley EFI, MSD ignition, or other Holley Performance Brands products.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 or IATF 16949 quality systems.
Working Conditions
- Based in a shop and lab environment, with occasional exposure to loud noises, fumes, and mechanical hazards.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and operate standard automotive tools and testing equipment.
- Occasional travel to support manufacturing, supplier visits, or field investigations may be required.
