REPORTS TO: Project Manager

LOCATION: San Antonio, TX, US

STATUS: Part-Time

JOB SUMMARY:  

The Academic Coach will provide direct academic support to elementary and middle school students through math and reading interventions aligned with culturally responsive practices. The Academic Coach collaborates closely with educators, caregivers, and program staff to identify academic gaps and deliver engaging, evidence-based instruction tailored to individual student needs. 

 

JOB RESPONSIBLTIES: 

  • Provide one-on-one and small group academic coaching sessions for students across various grade levels, focusing on subject-specific content. 
  • Assess students' learning styles, strengths, and areas requiring improvement, developing tailored strategies to meet individual needs. 
  • Keeps current with effective instructional strategies through professional literature.
  • Facilitate workshops for caregivers on relevant topics.
  • Participate in national education webinars and training opportunities to enhance skills.
  • Utilize school-adopted high-quality instructional materials (HQIM) to provide aligned intervention and Tier 2 support that complements core classroom instruction.
  • Deliver both Tier 1 push-in and Tier 2 pull-out support for math instruction, using high-impact strategies, games, and coaching cycles aligned with classroom teachers and the school’s math curriculum.
  • Partner with the campus MTSS Coordinator to develop, monitor, and implement individualized academic support plans, ensuring fidelity across Tiers 1-3. 
  • Analyze classroom, assessment, and attendance data in collaboration with teachers and school leaders to adapt interventions and maximize impact.
  • Participate in weekly planning, data meetings, and instructional walkthroughs as needed to ensure coherence between coaching support and classroom instruction.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, or related field required.
  • Prior experience in academic coaching, teaching, or educational counseling, particularly within an independent school setting.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work in cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain proper evaluation and reporting materials.
  • Ability to relate well with youth and parents from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite and desktop publishing software
  • Passion for helping children and ability to handle confidential information professionally.
  • Flexibility for evening/weekend functions.
  • Knowledge of the local community is preferred.
