- Five (5) years experience with the CCISD Police Department as a Texas Peace Officer
- Three (3) years experience in a supervisory capacity
- Management & Oversight: Acts as shift manager, directly supervising Sergeants, Campus Police Officers, Campus Safety Officers and Contracted Security Personnel. Provides day-to-day operational management ensuring alignment with department goals and CCISD policies.
- Strategic Management: Implements department-wide initiatives and ensures the effectiveness of emergency response plans, safety drills, and compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates
- Executive Communication: Serves as a liaison between command staff, district administration, and external stakeholders. Keeps upper management informed of departmental performance and personnel matters
- Crisis & Incident Command: Assumes leadership during critial incidents and emergencies, executing protocols under the Incident Command System (ICS) and ensuring optimal coordination and management of resources.
- Training & Development: Leads onboarding and professional development of new personnel and manages training of existing personnel. Conducts internal investigations, performance evaluations, and staff disciplinary processes.
- Administrative Leadership: Reviews and approves timesheets, police reports, accident reports, and background investigations. Coordinates staff schedules and ensures accurate documentation of law enforcement activities.
- Perform all duties as a manager/leader supervising Sergeants, Police Officers and all other staff assigned to his/her command
- Comply with and ensure subordinate compliance with CCISD and Department policies and procedures
- Willingly support management informed of matters affecting the Sergeant position, their squads and all units assigned them
- Assumes command of the department when assigned by the Chief in his absence
- Able to deal effectively and professionally with the personnel of other law enforcement agencies, the judiciary, District personnel, and community members
- Work professionally with Directors, Principals, and Assistant Principals to ensure district and campus needs are met while achieving the overall mission
- Approve and make corrections as needed to timesheets submitted in Frontline
- Approve completed police reports
- Conduct Parent/Student conferences
- Conduct internal personnel investigations assigned by the Chief of Police
- Conduct personnel conferences before disciplinary action is taken
- Uses knowledge gained as a CCISD Police Officer to train new Police/Security personnel and orient them concerning issues particular to CCISD and the CCISD Police Department
- Prepare employee accident reports for employee benefits
- Prepare traffic accidents involving district vehicles for employee benefits
- Maintain working knowledge of all Texas state laws
- Assist in providing traffic control on contiguous streets at the athletic events, school closings or openings, or at any other time deemed necessary
- Provide police services at school or school district sponsored activities that occur off school property as authorized
- Prepare and submit required reports in a timely manner
- Enforce all applicable rules, regulations, policies, and laws of the State of Texas and the District
- Make arrests when authorized by law
- Testify in all court proceedings as required
- Coordinate with other law enforcement agencies, judicial, and emergency services, on matters concerning the District
- Properly cares for property and equipment assigned or entrusted to them

- Prepare employee performance evaluations for Human Resources
- Conduct Background investigations on all potential new hires
- Possess good report writing skills and ability to interview witnesses. Emergency Management Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with assigned shift's efforts to ensure compliance with state mandates concerning Emergency Operations Plans (EOP) and ensure timely reporting of the same to the Chief of Police
- Coordinate and train staff who conduct campus/facility audits and ensure timely reporting of the same to the Chief of Police
- Coordinate with assigned teams to ensure compliance with state laws relating to required safety drills and ensure timely reporting of the same to the Chief of Police
- Must possess working knowledge of campuses/facilities in the district and properly implement ICS protocols during emergencies

As a member of the command staff, the captain plays a key leadership role in managing and overseeing law enforcement operations within the Corpus Christi Independent School District (CCISD). This mid-level management position is responsible for strategic leadership, personnel supervision, policy enforcement, and interagency coordination of special events and contracted positions which ensure the safety and security of all students, staff, and district properties. The captains manage 95 employees, which include Sergeants, Senior Officers, Campus Police Officers, Campus Safety and Senior Safety Officers and Contracted Security Personnel throughout the District.
