POSITION SUMMARY
The Gas Trader is responsible for overseeing daily natural gas system operations, including scheduling, storage, and inventory management. This role supports supply planning and trading through market analysis, ensures compliance with regulatory reporting requirements, and maintains effective communication with internal teams, external customers, and pipeline operators. The analyst plays a key role in optimizing systems through automation, managing billing and reconciliation processes, executing hedging strategies, and supporting cross-functional initiatives. Industry engagement and stakeholder reporting are also essential components of this position, contributing to both operational reliability and strategic growth
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
•Track supply and demand, adjust schedules to maintain and prevent imbalances on Hope LDC’s
•Monitor and manage daily storage balances to ensure optimal inventory levels and operational efficiency Daily
•Analyze market trends, forecast demand, and execute trades
•Develop monthly supply plans
•Assist in preparing winter supply plans
•Maintain accurate records of trades, analyze performance, and prepare reports for management
•Communicate with AMA and transporters on Hope Utility LDC’s daily to align on potential imbalances and ensures the integrity of our systems
•Complete monthly EIA 857 reports
•Complete annual EIA 176 Reporting
•Coordinate and optimize the flow of natural gas from suppliers to end-users by nominating all interstate purchases
•Input Deal Entries of all Interstate purchases and nominations into Gastar for checks and balances
•Create and send Monthly Hope Fuel Loss Reports to internal customers
•Assist in the completion of Quarterly Gas Cost Reports for Sycamore Gas
•Assist in the preparation of the Annual Gas Cost Review for Frontier Gas including All Data Requests and testimonials ensuring accuracy and regulatory compliance
•Assist in the preparations of the annual presentations on gas market trends and HOPE updates to the Public Utility Commission
•Liaise with Accounting to manage and ensure accurate invoicing for all gas purchases
•Assist in the development and execution of annual Winter Hedging plans
•Monitor market conditions, analyze price fluctuations, and forecast demand to identify profitable trading opportunities
•Assess and manage trading risks, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements
•Engage with marketing professionals at industry conferences to foster relationships and identify new business opportunities
•Communicate daily with transportation customers to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of invoices and all customer-facing reports
•Centralize company data by implementing an online filing system, streamlining the upload of all acquisitions-related documents and ensuring a single, accessible source for all knowledge and paperwork
•Automate reporting, when possible, to optimize use of daily schedules
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
The team member in this role will:
•Serve as an Individual Contributor without supervisory responsibilities.
•Support and contribute towards team goals and objectives.
REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES
•Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
•Knowledge of gas transportation systems, tariffs, and nomination processes.
•Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, data analysis tools, and gas management software (e.g., Quorum, Allegro, or similar).
•Experience with trading platforms (i.e. ICE, NGI, Platts, etc.) preferred
•Proficient in using energy trading & risk management (ETRM) systems preferred
•Excellent communication and organizational skills.
•Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE
•Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Business, Energy Management, or related field required. -and-
•Two (2) years of relevant experience in natural gas trading, scheduling, or energy markets preferred. -OR-
•High school diploma or equivalent required -and-
•Five (5) years of relevant experience in natural gas trading, scheduling, or energy markets required
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate must be able to complete the following physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation:
