The Ship/Terminal Checker I is responsible for recording cargo movement (discharge, loading and stowage on the vessel and load out and receiving of cargos though the terminal, to and from the customer carrier in a responsible, safe and efficient manner.
Calificaciones:Candidate Requirements:
- Two-year (1) year of experience in customer service.
- Excellent written & communication in English (Spanish is a plus)
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must have Driver’s License
- Must have a TWIC (Transportation Worker identification Credential)
- Dependable mode of transportation to and from work
- The ability and willingness to work in a team environment
- Must be willing to travel, as needed.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
• Employee is required to perform an abundance of physical manual labor.
• Must be able to work at heights, within enclosed/confined spaces, in noisy environments with moving equipment and in adverse climatic conditions.
• The employee is constantly required to stand, reach forward, balance, handle objects, operate controls and perform simple and firm hand grasping including twisting and pinching.
• The employee is frequently required to squat, stoop, crouch, kneel, and reach overhead.
• The employee must frequently pull up to 130 pounds, push, pull and lift up to 110 pounds and carry up to 55 pounds.
• The employee is occasionally required to sit (while being lifted in basket), crawl, grasp, exercise eye-hand coordination, exercise repetitive wrist motion.
• The employee is required to talk and hear.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Responsabilidades:Key Responsibilities:
• Perform all labor functions in accordance within the Vessel Stevedoring operation and safety guidelines.
• Work with forklift basket up to heights of around 14 feet to place or remove hooks or strapping used for lifting containers, pipes and general cargo.
• Secure cargo with chains/binders when preparing for lifting, visually inspecting lifting gear.
• Strap cargo by utilizing lashings and carpentry, container hooks, wire rope weighing up to 1101bs to assure safe operation and safely removing lashings/securements.
• Report any unsafe or damaged cargo to supervisor.
• Follow instructions and signals when cargo is being lifted or lowered on ground or vessel.
• Hooking on cargos in the hold for unloading and unhooking during loading onto the vessel.
• Understanding cargo stowage, dunnage, and securing requirements.
• Proficient in Operating PITs, stowing cargo on the vessel.
• Maintain a clean work area, free of debris or safety hazards and awareness of surroundings (i.e. vehicles, people, equipment, etc.) at all times.
• Operate power industrial and material handling equipment, such as 8K or 10K forklifts to organize cargo on the dock, and operate chain saw to secure and unsecure cargo.
• Informing supervisor of damaged or unsafe cargo.
• Perform other related tasks as assigned.
